I have been raised by parents that believe in my potential to create positive change in the world, and that cultivate my desire to help people on a global level. My upbringing was the genesis of my ambition, but the growth of my specific interest in political science stems from my experience as a translator in Honduras. Until then, I was I didn’t realize how much power one’s voice carries. Without the power to speak out, people are defenseless, and as Euripides described, “It is slavery, not to speak one’s thoughts”. The people of rural Honduras are ruthlessly exploited by the few sources employment. These employers, cognizant of their leverage, set their wages so low that their workers cannot afford to leave the countryside or get a higher education. With no aid from their government, the rural Hondurans fall into a virtually inescapable and corporately-systemized poverty…

Even though her mother was a nurse and not a Psychology major, her mother used these books during college. Professor McIntyre said that she found these book interesting and it prompted her to begin to take an interest in Psychology. I found this very interesting because it was my mother too that helped to get me interested in the field of Psychology. I then asked “what would you be doing if you were not in the field of Psychology?” Professor McIntyre paused and laughed for a minute. She said she loved Psychology so much that she really could not see herself doing anything else, but if she had to choose she would have been a nurse because she loves interacting with others. I also asked her what she loved about Psychology. She told me that she loved teaching and educating others about it, she loved that it was always evolving, you can learn new things about it all the time, and she loved that it was a field that could always be applied to real life. I then asked Professor McIntyre if she enjoyed being a Professor here at Russell Sage College, I told her I would make no judgements regardless of her answer. She told me that she loved teaching here because the class sizes were perfect and they allowed her to interact with everyone on an intimate level.…

Abraham Lincoln was a very effective leader throughout the Civil War. Although he had no prior military experience, he proved to be an asset throughout the war. According to his contemporary critics, Abraham Lincoln's Presidential record was notable for his despotic use of power and his blatant disregard for the Constitution. Lincoln ordered thousands of arrests, kept political enemies in prison without bringing charges against them, refused these hapless men their right to trial by a jury of their peers, and ignored orders from the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court to release them. In his first few months in office he made the most direct violations of the Constitution in the Nation's history. He increased the size of the Regular Army without Congressional approval, spent money without Congressional authorization, suspended the writ of habeas corpus without authority and generally acted as if he had never heard of the other two branches of the government. He threw out the Constitution and retained popular appeal of the masses.…
