Jrotc Personal Statement

I am a multifaceted person and student. My interests range from military drill to painting to forensic science and everything in between. I’ve excelled in academics because of my strong work ethic and dedication to success. I owe a lot to my experience in AFJROTC. I started going to JROTC summer camp the summer before my freshman year of high school. Back then, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. The camp was much more difficult than I expected, despite the warning in the information packet to get in shape. At fourteen, I had no idea how to stand at attention, or fall into a formation. However, I caught on to those things quickly by watching the older cadets around me. Physical training began at 6 am, before breakfast, and was followed by rigorous survival training in first aid, shelter building, and orienteering. By lights out each night, I was exhausted and sore, but determined to prove myself. The camp had a system of separating average cadets from those who were a step higher: Spike Night. Throughout camp, the
I learned how to set goals, how to perform and command military drill, how to wear a uniform, and a number of other life skills like time management. I learned the value of community service and how enjoyable it is to contribute to good causes. Through JROTC I volunteered at various organizations like the Lion’s Club, The Elk’s Lodge, and supported school functions. My first year I joined the unarmed drill team, and became the commander of the first year team. My second year I took over the regulation team and I still continue to command it. I am the first four year drill commander our corps has ever had, and I lead the team to three first places and one third place (which contributed to our corps winning the drill state championship) all in one season. After he state championship, my art overlapped with JROTC when they asked me to design t shirts for the winning
