When I first started college, I did not know what field I wanted to get into. After a few years in college, I realized that I wanted to go into Clinical mental health working with adolescents. During my years in college, I was accepted to do an internship at Naomi Family Center. While I was there I worked with many different specialists in the field of psychology. The most interesting part of the whole experience was working with the therapist who worked with adolescent children. Naomi family specialized in helping women and their children overcome trauma, sexual abuse, sexual assault and chemical dependency. …show more content…
I am passionate about the treatment we can provide to help these young children overcome what they are going through or have been through. Children are the future and it is our job to make sure that they have the tools to reach their fullest potential in life. By giving them a safe environment and people they can trust and express what they are feeling. Working with young adults and children can be very rewarding, and I discovered my abilities to adapt and relate. Coaching teenagers have given me more opportunities to not just teaching them how to play volleyball but also daily life advice. Being only twenty-two years old coaching and working with children it is easy to relate to some children but not all. They all go through so many different things that I may not have gone through growing up. The young girls I coach are not just there to learn from me they are also teaching me by how to respond to a person when they need someone to turn to. Their lives right now are like an emotional roller coaster because of the changes children are going through every day and plus hormones. I would appreciate the opportunity to become a student at your university to develop my inherent strengths and interest into a successful and fulfilling a career in clinical mental health counseling and transform my personal goals into reality. It would be an honor to have the privilege to continue my education at Lewis

When I transferred to Queens College in Fall 2015, I was a dual major in elementary education and psychology. It was at Queens College that I realized I had a strong interest in the psychology field and learning about disorders and various treatments available. I took an intro to clinical psychology course in the Fall 2016 semester, and I enjoyed having practice exercises, helping and treating a "client". I am currently taking Psychological Disorders of Childhood, and am learning about various assessments and treatments targeted for children. My education courses were also beneficial because I got to volunteer in the classroom and I got to see the issues students were really facing. It was a great precursor of what is to come in the counseling…
