I began college as an elementary education major, I had a passion for teaching, and completed 100+ hours of volunteering. I shadowed teachers and truly believed that teaching was my desired career path. I have experience in pre-k, kindergarten, and the 2nd grade. I learned that I am patient, caring, and that the students really respected me as an authority figure. These traits will be an asset in my endeavor to become a school counselor. When I transferred to Queens College in Fall 2015, I was a dual major in elementary education and psychology. It was at Queens College that I realized I had a strong interest in the psychology field and learning about disorders and various treatments available. I took an intro to clinical psychology course in the Fall 2016 semester, and I enjoyed having practice exercises, helping and treating a "client". I am currently taking Psychological Disorders of Childhood, and am learning about various assessments and treatments targeted for children. My education courses were also beneficial because I got to volunteer in the classroom and I got to see the issues students were really facing. It was a great precursor of what is to come in the counseling
