First of all, he is the one that had the idea for Juliet to drink the fake poison. He states, "take thou this vial, being then in bed, and this distilled liquor drink thou off... and then awake as from a pleasant sleep." (1021-1022) This means that if the friar never had the idea to have Juliet fake her death, Romeo would have never killed himself. There would have been no letter to be sent to Romeo, and nobody would have to worry about anyone's deaths. Also, Friar Laurence never knew that the letter would not get to Romeo. Secondly, Friar Laurence was the one who married them in the first place. He knew that they were forbidden to get married. He thought that if he married them, the drama and fighting between their families would stop. Friar Laurence states ¨in one respect I´ll assist be; For this alliance may so happy prove to turn your households rancor to pure love¨(980) This is saying that not knowing what marrying Romeo and Juliet could cause, but he did it anyway. Little did he know that is would wound up with both of them dead. He thought that if they were married, nothing could go wrong. The friar thought there would be a happily ever after. If he never married them, then Juliet would learn that she has to do what she told, and not go behind her parents back. Even though the Friar isn’t the only person to blame for Romeo and Juliet’s death, he plays a huge role and is partly to blame for everything that happens. The Friar agrees to marry Romeo and Juliet when they’ve only known each other for less than a day. He agrees to this because he thinks that it would end the feud between the two families that has been going on for years. As he says to Romeo “come, young waverer, come, go with me/In one respect I’ll thy assistant be/For this alliance may so happy prove/To turn your household’s rancor to pure love” (R+J3.2. 89-92). When Romeo gets sent away for killing Tybalt, Friar Laurence comes up with a plan to have Romeo and Juliet be together so he gets Friar John to deliver a message to Romeo. Little did Friar John know that that letter meant life or death. As Friar Laurence says “Unhappy fortune! By my brotherhood/ The letter was not nice but full of charge/ Of dear import, and the neglecting it/May do much danger” (R+J 5.2. 17-20). The second part of the Friars plan is…

In this scene Juliet`s parents reveal to her about her arranged marriage with Paris, as Juliet`s reaction to this is negative Capulet is not very pleased, it reveals an angry and threatening side of him. He shows no interest in Juliet`s feelings as he says “speak not, reply not, do not answer me” this shows how unemotional he is, a few scenes before we saw a version of Capulet who respected Juliet`s wishes- but after this scene we see a side that somehow gives me the impression of the real Capulet. I get this idea as there is no one of the public to witness this so anything he says will not be at risk of his reputation being damaged- as it is the only thing he seems to care about-he says to Juliet what is really in his mind. He is very impatient and does not want to deal with the situation that Juliet is putting him in, he will throw away Juliet`s wishes i other to fulfil his own, this tells me that he is a selfish man and does not love his daughter enough to care, this might be because in Shakespearean time women took care of the children so the father might not have a real connection with his…

Romeo and Juliet decide that they are going to be married and Romeo goes to ask the Friar to marry them. The Friar is proud of Romeo for the fact that Romeo got over Rosaline and agrees to marry the two lovers. “In one respect I’ll thy assistant be,/For this alliance may so happy prove/ To turn your households' rancor to pure love (II. iii. 90-93). The Friar decides that marrying Romeo and Juliet is a good idea because of the slight chance that it could reunite the two families. Yet the Friar fails to see all the possible negative outcomes that could come from marrying Romeo and Juliet. Later in the scene the Friar talks to Romeo about how these types of relationships can end badly for the people involved. “These violent delights have violent ends/And in their triumph die, like fire and powder, / Which, as they kiss, consume. The sweetest honey/Is loathsome in his own deliciousness/And in the taste confounds the appetite. / Therefore love moderately. Long love doth so. /Too swift arrives as tardy as too slow (II. vi. 9-15). The Friar is contradicting everything he already said earlier. Earlier, he believed that only good could come out of the marriage and now he believes that the marriage could end in death for Romeo and Juliet. If the Friar was not so quick to agree to Romeo’s request of marriage, he could have stopped the death of the two lovers. If Romeo and Juliet were never married, they would not feel the need to be together at all times and they would not have to come up with plans for them to be…

Friar Laurence is at fault for causing this catastrophe. Friar Laurence is one of many who should have guided Romeo and Juliet’s love into a more stable situation. It was the Friar who married these two young adults after they had only known each other for one day. ”In one respect I’ll thy assistant” Almost every girl would jump at the chance to be in a relationship with Romeo and the Friar should have seen this and tried to convince Romeo to slow things down. The Friar then further complicated this already immensely passionate and yet fragile relationship by giving a death emulating potion to Juliet. ‘Hold, daughter. I do spy a kind of hope, which craves as desperate as execution as that is desperate which we would prevent. If. Rather than marry county Paris, Thou hast the strength of will to slay thyself, Then is it likely thou will undertake a thing like death to chide away from this shame, that cop’st with death himself to ‘scape from it ; And, if thou darest, I’ll give thee remedy’. The Friar does attempt to explain the situation in a letter but Romeo never receives it. It is Friar Laurence who is reprehensible for the death of Romeo and Juliet, due to his spontaneous actions he managed to obscure the situation which resulted in the ending of the two young lovers’ lives.…
