A writer's choice of words can be the fall or the rise of the author's work. Using diction, writers are able to make words come alive and illustrate a particular scene that the author wants to portray. If diction is not used, the idea trying to be portrayed can become blasé. Readers are more captivated to read works if the story is more descriptive and influential. For example, compare the two following sentences: the old brown tree is dying, and the aged russet tree slowly decays into the earth. Of the two sentences, the second sentences uses diction that is able to let the reader's imagination run wild. William Faulkner is unique writer who is able to manipulate a mere sentence into an image that captivates the reader's minds. In "A Rose for Emily," Faulkner uses diction to enhance his mysterious happenings of Emily Grierson's life from the way the townspeople behave all the way to Emily's unrequited love for Homer Barron.…

For the Infant and Toddler Curriculum class, I was assigned the toddler classroom at Montessori Day School to complete my 24 hours of observation. The classroom had ten children with two teachers. The classroom was divided into four sections by two-shelf bookshelves. There were two tables, large carpets, and small white rugs where the students could take their work to complete. Because Montessori Day School is passionate about the Montessori method, the children do not simply wander the classroom and play with toys. They choose activities that the teachers refer to as “work” to complete. These works help develop the child’s social, emotional, intellectual, and motor skills. The teachers are able to work in groups or provide individualized instruction, so the child can learn at their own pace.…

In what ways is the Holy Land an important site for all three monotheistic faiths? Holy land is an important site for all three monotheistic faiths because, for Christians it’s the city were Jesus was crucified and rose from the dead. For the Muslims it’s the place where Mohammad ascended to the heavens to meet God. Last but not least for the Jews, King David named it and was where Solomon had built the temple.…
What can we make of a worldview? Where does it come from? Why are worldviews important to my well-being? We can get to the root of these questions by observing two factors. The first is culture, the second is spirituality. Along with the fore mentioned aspects, taking a look at what influences worldviews will help explain these questions.…
Poverty and homelessness remains a main concern in our society. Patrick Conway, of the Global Research Institute of the University of North Carolina conducted research on “Poverty of North Carolina.” The research illustrated that the national poverty rate was 14.5 % in the year of 2009, way below the North Carolina poverty rate. Poverty is still a rising and an ongoing crisis. According to a data set found in usda.gov for North Carolina in 2010, the poverty rate was between 16.9 to 22.4 %. Using the text, Nickel and Dimed by Ehrenreich, and other writing sources, students were presented with a scenario of living in poverty. In this hypothetical situation, the student is 21 years old, pregnant with a seven month old baby and has a one year old. In addition, the spouse is disabled and unemployed. In this…

In the United States and in countries all over the world, poverty takes extreme deficits to the country's population. Throughout my life I have began to notice these deficits take toll on my community of Payette. I chose this topic because growing up in a small community you really get to see the best and worst of everyone. This includes those who may not have as much money as you. When you are younger it isn’t something you notice much of the bad that is happening but as you grow up you see if through your friends and their family members. As I grew up that was what I saw, I saw the effects of poverty really start to hit them harder than I had ever noticed before. I also based my senior project off the fact that those in this community suffer so…
Poverty is one of the most serious issues in the United States today. Those that are affected were once the minority of society is now emerging as the majority. The new faces of poverty would surprise many people. It is no longer the face of the pleading face of a middle-aged man on a city street holding up a sign that says “Hungry, Need Help.”, or the face of a young child in a classroom, whose only real meal today will be a free school lunch. It is also the sad face of a single mother who doesn’t have enough money to buy clothes for her children.…
Followers of Jesus, a Jewish man, started a new religion, Christianity. Christianity started to grow during the Pax Romana, a period of peace in Rome. The Pax Romana lasted from 27 B.C.E to 180 C.E. and during it government improved, literature prospered, engineering improved, and laws formed. The peace during the Pax Romana provided a time for Christianity to rise. Christianity spread rapidly and successfully in the 1st through 3rd centuries because it appealed to many people, missionaries could easily travel and spread the message, and because of the events taking place in Rome.…
