Williams, many people of the black community came to his house and applauded him for becoming the head coach and doing something no one else had done. As Coach Yoast was announcing that he would be taking a year off from coaching, the boys and their fathers tried to get him to change his mind and protested for him to stay. Yoast kept those boys in line and spent a lot of time with them, the boys looked up to him. As they were coming home from winning the regional championship game (Merron) Gerry got in a bad accident and was put in the hospital. In the waiting room were the team and coaches. The saw him as a brother and wanted to be there to make sure he was doing okay and to support him. Julius goes in the room to see Gerry and the nurse says there is only kin the room. Gerry says, “Alice, are you blind? Don’t you see the family resemblance? That’s my brother.” (Remember the Titans, 2000). The relationship Gerry and Julius had been very special.
