look as if they are at a distance; the viewer can faintly see the mountains in the background of the painting. He also adds a vanishing point in the painting, which is in the background. Finally, in this painting, we can see that the artist tries to make the subjects look natural and realistic, a technique that artists often used during this time period. In my opinion, he also invokes emotion in the viewer by focusing on religion.
Image B is a part of the Baroque period, which was a part of the 1600s to 1700s. Usually, Baroque art consisted of very vivid and dramatic colors. The use of some of the primary colors such as red and blue in this painting portray this technique. Additionally, figures are painted to be overlapping, which was commonly found in paintings of this period. We can see that the artist was inspired by this since many of the people are overlapping each other to the point where, in my opinion, it is kind of difficult to see all the people in the painting. Moreover, death was concentrated on during this period. In this art piece, Christ is being put on the cross, which portrays his death. The artist also makes the painting very emotionally intense by involving such a sensitive topic. Since death is involved, the painting shows an emotionally intense situation. Lastly, the artist uses contrasts between light and dark as seen towards the back of the painting, also a technique that artists' used during this time period.
Image C portrays a painting during the Rococo period, which was a part of the 18th century.
Something that stood out when I first saw the painting was the difference between color. The sky is a soft blue and the trees are a lot darker. Also, the two main subjects in the painting, especially the male figure, really stand out because of the colors the artist used for their clothing. Nonetheless, one characteristic that artist commonly used during this time period was the theme of playfulness or love, which is interesting because immediately when I first saw the painting the mood seemed a lot less stressful as opposed to the other two paintings. Secondly, during the Rococo period, a lot of the paintings were asymmetrical in balance, similar to what the artist did in this painting. Additonally, I noticed that the artist used light or pastel colors throughout some parts of the painting. For example, the flowers on the floor of the painting are a light, pastel pink and the woman's clothes are an off white. Although some of the painting, such as the trees, are intense in color, lighter colors were used to create a happier mood. Bright, vibrant colors were also commonly connected to this period, explaining the man’s clothing, which is a bright red color. Finally, the Rococo period consisted of elaborate settings much like this one. The background is heavily decorated with trees and throughout the painting, there are flowers surrounding it. I also noticed that there is minimal to no space since everything is preoccupied with elaborate
designs.
