There are three types of strokes: ischemic, hemorrhagic and transient ischemic attacks (TIAs) (Mclntosh, 2016). Ischemic stroke is the most prevailing type of strokes with an 85 percent average rate (Mclntosh, 2016). I am interested in running for the position of Secretary of the National Honor Society so that I can assist the President and Vice President in making our school a better place. We, as members of this prestigious group, have the duty to involve Saucon Valley as a whole in order to do community service for the benefit of all. As Secretary, I plan to amp up the school spirit here at Saucon so that every individual student feels included and motivated to better our school and our community. For example, the blood drive that NHS hosts every year can become a schoolwide effort with a little more enthusiasm. In previous years, many underclassmen ignore the blood drive completely because of their age and thus, their inability to donate blood. But if we were to make the event more “fun” as a whole, we could encourage students to get the word out to their parents, neighbors, or friends to get involved and donate their blood to those who need it. And by “fun”, I imply decorations throughout the school, exaggerated morning announcements, offers of food, anything that will get the student body excited to share their blood!…

This semester my brothers and I have participated in multiple community service experiences, but what I particularly would like to speak about is a service that I am currently putting together. This service would involve my fraternity brothers and I volunteering time on Saturdays at the New Orleans YLC. What we would be specifically task with is going and spending time with kids in an underserved area; playing sports with them and just fellowshipping with them. We are having our first orientation this Wednesday February 17th. From that date on we will…

Tuesday, December the eighth, I had my first experience volunteering. As an active member of Webster County High School’s Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) club, I decided that I would leave archery practice a few minutes early and head towards the Providence Food Bank. Every second Tuesday of each month, HOSA meets at the food bank at five-thirty to help prepare senior citizen boxes and assist people in shopping at the food bank. Intrigued by the opportunity to gain a few bonus points and support the club that I am passionate about, I figured why not give it a…

To begin, increasing the availability of donor information, such as pamphlets and posters, may further arouse the thought of organ donation. Another plausible step could include the removal of websites pertaining false accounts and other distorted information of organ donation, yet this step infringes on freedom of speech. Likely to be the best route with minutiae expense in informing the public of organ donation is to hold local events promoting people to become donors, as of 5k runs or banquets. As a result of enhancing people’s comprehension of organ donation through these steps, the number of organ donors may broaden. In return, an increase in organ donors provides a greater likelihood for vital organ transplants to recipients waiting on UNOS’…
