Business Research Methods Part 1 In week two, the objectives were identifying and analyzing a research question that
applies to a chosen organization, choosing an organization with familiarity, developing a
research question arising from an organizational dilemma, while determining a research design (Cooper & Schindler, 2011). In the research design, operational definitions, dependent and independent variables, and specific characteristics will be exhibited (Cooper & Schindler, 2011). A sample design for collecting data will also be attached (Exhibit A), and Team A will expound upon these elements later in week four. Team A will also identify, analyze and research these objectives while conveying how they relate to life applications both personal and professional.
Organizational Dilemma Research Question Over the past five years the Georgia Department of Transportation has been experiencing a high turnover rate throughout the agency with regard to employees leaving the agency. This turnover rate affects retiring employees as well as those employees seeking other employment. Management’s main question is why are the employees leaving and what can be done to decrease the number of employees leaving the agency?
Identify and Analyze Research Question Team A has identified the research question as: “Why Do Employees Leave?” In analyzing this question, Team A defines the problem as employee retention. Employee retention denotes numerous practices and policies that allow the employees to remain with an organization for an extended time frame. Every organization devotes a certain amount of money and time to train a new employee, groom him/her as a company “ready material” and prepare him/her to the equivalence with the current employees.
