God already had a plan for Jeremiah and the mission he wanted to complete. Although Jeremiah was selected before his birth, hence his name means "the Lord established" and" appointed by the Lord". Jeremiah is known as the "bravest, greatest man in Old Testament history" and that is saying something when he is compared to Moses and Job. In Hebrews 11:38 and 1 Timothy 6:11 we are told that Jeremiah was God's man from the beginning to the end. Meaning that Jeremiah served God all of his life and gave his life in the service of God. The Bible does not speak of the death of Jeremiah. Tradition declares that Jeremiah was stoned to death by the Jews. Jeremiah probably died about 570BCE. According to a tradition that is preserved in extrabiblical sources, he was stoned to death by his exasperated fellow countrymen in Egypt. www.britannica.com
Jeremiah lived and died in the service of the Lord. He did his best to lead Israel and Judah to repent of their sins and to return to God before it was too late. The people would not listen according to Jeremiah 6:16, when Jeremiah told them to return to the old paths of God, to the old teachings of Moses. But the people would not. Thus says the LORD:“Stand in the ways and see, And ask for the old paths, where the good way is, And walk in it; Then you will find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’ Jeremiah 6:16 NKJV
