Research Paper On Johann Mendel

Johann Mendel was born on July 22, 1822 to Anton and Rosine Mendel. He had two sisters, Veronica, who was two years older and Theresa, who was seven years younger. Other children were born into the family but had died at birth. Anton was a peasant farmer which brought Johann’s interest in plants. Rosine was known for being born to a family with talent. When he was at the eligible age he started to work in the farm and he attended the village’s school. At school the teachers noticed he was very intelligent and arranged for him to move to a more advanced school. Since his parents were peasants they had difficulty paying for his tuition. He graduated from his school in 1840 at the age of 18. He was unable to continue studying due to his lack of income and he couldn’t find someone who needed a tutor. He even went through many nervous breakdown due to the stress. When his father was seriously injured he still tried to continue his education. He studied at the Philosophy Institute in Olomouc for two years. After that Veronica got married and her husband bought the family farm. The sale gave Mendel some money to further his education. He later became a priest which supplied him with free room and board. Theresa helped him financially by giving him some of her dowry. He repaid her by paying for her three son’s college tuition. At his university he met Professor Friedrich Franz while taking physics who helped him get admitted to the Augustinian monastery of St. Thomas in Brno. In the monastery he would finish his priestly duties then study with the extra time. He also took a new name Gregor which was a custom in monasteries.
