Malala Yousafzai, named after ‘Malalai of Maiwand’ a famous ‘warrior woman’ from Afghanistan, was born in Mingora, Pakistan, on July 12th, 1997. She grew up with her mother and father (Toor Pekai Yousafzai and Ziauddin Yousafzai) and her two younger brothers, (Khushal Yousafzai and Atal Yousafzai). Malala had a peaceful life for a while, however, after a few years, the Taliban began to take control. When the Taliban troops took over, they enforced many unreasonable laws.They said that girls should not go to school, and they began bombing the local schools. Malala’s father ran a girls school in Mingora, which Malala attended. When Malala Yousafzai found out she wasn’t supposed to go to school, she began to protest.
