The violent group was called The Black Panthers. They preached violence but this organization also provided much needed child care to many black citizens all over the United States. The Muslims also posed a violent threat. Malcolm X was a leader that stated that blacks deserve change and equality and if they should take it. Salie was 17-years-old when the Civil Rights Movement began. Her parents and her parent’s friends did not support the movement but her, her brother, and their friends did. Salie and her brother were raised by a black maid as long as she can remember. She decided when she got married and had kids that she did not want help. So when the civil rights movement began, Salie supported it and thought it was fair.
