The sixties is often seen as a good era full of growing technology, but for the lesbians, gays, Bi, and Transgender (LGBT) community it wasn't always like that. “Just after 3 a.m., a police raid of the Stonewall Inn–a gay club located on New York City’s Christopher Street–turns violent as patrons and local sympathizers begin rioting against the police.” Even though the police were legally justified in raiding the club, because they were serving liquor without a licenses. New York's gay community was sick and tired of the cops targeting well known gay bars in New York. The crowded streets watched as the Stonewall employees were arrested but when the Drag Queens and the Lesbian started being loaded into paddy wagon the queens decided "We're putting our foot down once and for all." She later confessed that she didn't protest by fighting or “violating” the officer, it was just that her hair was in curlers and she was afraid her new “beau” might be in the crowd and spot her. Then, without warning, Drag Queen Power exploded with all the fury of a gay atomic bomb. The so called Stonewall riots lasted for several days in New York.
It was the start of the Gay Liberation front as well as other gay, lesbian, and bisexual civil rights organisations It is also regarded by many as history’s first major protest on behalf of equal rights for homosexual’s.
