Respiratory Therapy Personal Statement

I always believed that I wanted to be a teacher. I wanted to make a difference in a child’s life. Then I started my classroom observation hours and quickly realized that being a teacher was not something I wanted to do with the rest of my life. I spoke to the school’s counselor and told her about the thoughts I had been having. The counselor had me take a couple of tests to see what fit my personality, interests, strengths, and values. The tests’ top recommendation for me was something in the medical field, so I researched different medical careers and came upon respiratory therapy. I have a family friend that works as a respiratory therapist and when I started asking questions I became very intrigued. I signed up to job shadow for a day and instantly fell in love with the work! Being a respiratory therapist ties in my passion of wanting to help people and the challenge, I enjoy of constantly learning new things.
As I stated earlier, I love kids! I hope to get accepted into the respiratory therapy program, gain experience in the field and eventually I may consider furthering my education to be able to work in the Neonatal-Pediatrics field of respiratory therapy. During my job shadowing I was permitted the opportunity to sit in on a C-section. I thought it was the most incredible thing, knowing that if needed, the respiratory therapist would be there to help the brand-new baby come into the world. That was the moment I knew I wanted to become a respiratory therapist. Being able to help those in need, especially children, is a remarkable feeling and I hope I am granted the opportunity to experience this feeling often in the
