In short story “Harrison Bergeron” written by Kurt Vonnegut Jr. the running theme is “equality” at all costs. This equality as they say is only really oppression. This level of oppression goes so far as to include oppressing the right and liberties of the people. In the second paragraph of the story it gives us insight to how much everything is controlled by the government to the point were the only thing they can’t control is nature. Somewhere down the line of this so called equality has to be a break in the chain. People such as the Handicapper-General who reign over every one they can't be handicapped so they have the ability and the intellect to maintain control and retard the natural abilities
