We decided to perform an audit on the resuscitation (resus) trolley, as we wanted to ensure that standards and protocols were still being complied with as our ward only opened in February, and at this current time we are undergoing significant changes. Policies are created by authorised personal to ensure optimal patient care and patient safety. These policies and guidelines are put in place for all health care workers to follow, in order to minimize the clinical risks and to strengthen clinical safety. The resus trolley is a significant piece of equipment that requires educations and training to ensure its proper use in an emergency situation. 2. Made sure the equipment and contents were all in good working condition and in date.
3. Made sure the Trolley had been rechecked post using it in an emergency.
4. Checking to ensure there was no excess items found in the trolley.
During the auditing process we realised that the policy on checking the resus trolley had been updated. So we printed the new Protocol off and changed what was not needed in the trolley. Because of this, there are a few faults in our results, as we had to wait for certain equipment to be delivered and excess equipment was also found.
