CHAPTER 1
THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

INTRODUCTION

It is in the heart of St. James Academy of Malabon City to be one of the best Catholic school ever emerged. This will not be proven if there are no religious activities occurring in the institution. Praying the rosary every morning, celebrating First Friday Masses, having retreats and recollections are just some of the practices that the school have. Each activity is a piece of good fortune for not everyone was made to experience those things.

Let’s focus on having retreats. It involves different benefits. It can make Catholics a more faithful individual, a family member to be more responsible, a student to be studious and eager, a friend to be more reliable and a member of the community to be more active.

The word Retreat goes from one definition to another. To tell you one, Retreat is a period of seclusion. It is the time wherein a person must be away from his or her personal activities. This includes a quiet time and a safer place. It is actually the listening of the voice of one’s heart. With enough curiosity, the researcher would like to know the effectiveness of retreats in the spiritual aspects of the seniors of St. James Academy.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This study aims to find out the perceptions of 4th Year students towards the concern of retreat programs, specifically, it sought answers to the following questions:

1. What is the profile of the respondents in terms of

1.1 age

1.2 gender

2. Do all 4th year students absorb ideas in the retreat?

3. What are the good effects of joining the 3-day retreat?

4. Does the retreat program really help the students to become more faithful individual?

5. How do the 4th year students perceive the retreat program of the school?

ASSUMPTIONS

This study assumes that:

1. High School students may learn facts that they can get in joining the retreat.
