Review of Literature Health promotion could be defined as one promotion of health that incorporates several functions working together to form one main goal. The goal is to promote a state of health that exudes a sense of well being so that in its essence is disease free and mentally stable in order to promote quality of life, healthy development, and healthy behaviors across all life stages. ("Healthy People," n.d., para. 3) . By providing and empowering individuals with information and education it enlightens ways to prevent illness caused by excessive weight, smoking, hypertension, and lack of immunizations. It also involves and aids in illness once diagnoses have been detected to stop or slow further deterioration of health. It encompasses all ages, social economic as not to leave anyone left behind. The purposes of promotion in nursing practice are to provide informed health information to the public. Giving people the knowledge and understanding of disease, disease prevention, diagnoses and treatment. Also the understanding of prognosis and treatment options that best suit their current life style and belief system
Evolving nurse roles and responsibilities range from helping the public understand how to cope with and take control of newly diagnosed disease to spiritual healing. Anything that may bring the community together as a whole to give empowerment to stop or slow further deterioration of health is found in the realms of nursing promotion of health. The practice of health promotion in nursing practice is so diverse one may not even know how evident it is. Nursing promotion is everywhere from the hospitals to the rural communities. In the hospital nurses promote healthy eating and exercise habits as well as education of diabetes, hypertension and prevention and early treatment of
