In Dennis Thompson’s article, “Teen Suicide thoughts, Self-Harm Cases Double in a Decade,” he mentions that suicidal thoughts and self-harm have increased more than double over a decade. Throughout the article, Thompson discusses why this has happened, and who it is happening to. This article was written because of a recent Netflix series that has been released, Thirteen Reasons Why. Thirteen Reasons Why is based on Jay Asher's book of the same title. The story follows a high school girl who commits suicide. Before killing herself, however, she made thirteen cassette tapes and left them for the thirteen people she believed played a part in her suicide. The show is very graphic and shows intense rape and cutting scenes. The level of intensity and awareness the show revealed concerned some educators and psychologists. The author made it seem as though the article would have a lot of information pertaining to the series, but after mentioning the concerns, the topic disappears.
