1. The character I have chosen is Rick Sanchez from the show Rick and Morty. I believe he suffers from antisocial personality disorder.
2. There is a substantial amount of evidence suggesting that he suffers from antisocial personality disorder, which falls under the DSM-IV’s classification of major personality disorders. Antisocial personality disorder as quoted from MayoClinic “is a type of chronic mental condition in which a person's ways of thinking, perceiving situations and relating to others are dysfunctional — and destructive.” As suggested by the name, this disorder is characterized by antisocial behavior, no regard for right and wrong, a disregard/violation of the rights of others, lying, stealing, irresponsibility, and lack of remorse. Rick Sanchez fits quite nicely into the depiction above, embodying all of the descriptions. He consistently steals and kills from individuals without a second thought, is wanted by the Galactic Federation for almost all imaginable crimes, irresponsibly takes his young grandson Rick out of school to go on dangerous expeditions, and has a serious problem with alcohol and drugs. This disorder is different from other disorders because many of the symptoms are quite distinct. To add further support, Rick’s disorder is a personality disorder and this eliminates the possibility of mistaking it for other disorders in other categories. Additionaly, within the realm of personality disorders, what seems to be wrong with Rick is subcategorized under the dramatic, emotional, and erratic cluster; he also doesn’t seem to have comorbidity among the other disorders. He neither has attention seeking behaviors as seen in the histrionic personality disorder or the grandiose sense of self-importance as seen in the narcissistic personality disorder. Furthermore, he lacks instability in mood, identity, and impulse control seen in borderline personality
