Rickettsia is an obligate intracellular gram-negative bacteria. This type of bacteria is very small and is bacilli shaped. Rickettsia causes rocky mountain spotted fever, rickettsia pox, epidemic typhus and murine typhus disease. It is found in ticks, lice, fleas, mites, chiggers and mammals. It is transmitted by a bite (vector transmission) from an infected tick, mite, flea or any organism that is infected by it. Once it enters the port of entry in the skin, it spreads through the bloodstream of the host. Rickettsia bacteria is susceptible to broad- spectrum antibiotics, therefore, if a human is infected they can take this antibiotics
