The Ridiculous Cost of Education It can be heard all the time that college is far too expensive. This statement is often spoken without much thought, nor do many people give it much consideration. The fact that college in the United States is very expensive is a widely known fact, but shouldn 't it be thought of as a problem rather than being accepted as a part of American life? A college education is now a crucial requirement for most careers and if one wants to have a successful future, a college degree will most likely be one of the steps on the way to that future. A college degree shouldn 't be reserved only for individuals who are fortunate enough to be able to cover the costs. Some may argue that most college bound students will get their tuition paid for in one way or another whether it be that they come from a wealthy family who can afford to pay for college in full, or whether they come from a poor family and receive financial aid. This may be the case, but what about the students who come from a family in the middle class? After a traditional four-year college education, the average debt that graduated students face is $35,200 (Ellis). Middle class students make up almost 70% of these students who graduate with a debt over $30,000. As a result of this, a lot of middle class students unfortunately have to settle with more affordable junior colleges, since their families are often not able to cover the cost of a university, but their family also makes too much money to qualify for financial
