Upon notification that we are receiving a new female soldier, the process of integration would not change. SPC Emily Hobson is a soldier and took the same oath as the rest of the section and should be treated the same: however, in the ARMY, you can “add” to, not take away. I would ensure to brief my section on the incoming personal and about some upcoming mandatory training that has to happen after SPC Hobson arrives.
Upon arrival, I would have already determined who SPC Hobson’s sponsor will be. I feel there is no need to single out SPC Hobson by bringing in another female solder to be her sponsor, I feel that my most senior SPC is capable of being her sponsor. We want to build unity with all our new soldiers in our section upon arrival. After arrival to the unit I would then gather all pertinent information from the soldier, making sure that I know my new soldiers marital status, living quarters, contact numbers, and future plans for military career. I would brief the solder on the unit’s mission and the sections expectations which includes fitness and job descriptions. Lastly I would read the initial counseling given to all soldiers who arrive in our unit, go over off post restrictions and introduce the soldier to the section and to the sponsor assigned to SPC Hobson.
A prearranged refresher course done by the unit’s SHARP representative would be beneficial as our section has not had a female soldier in approximately three years. It is imperative that all soldiers understand there is a zero tolerance in the US ARMY for sexual harassment and/or sexual assault.

I do not believe that Sergeant Williams made a sound operational decision at all. He knew what kind of man the FTO was and did nothing about it before or now. The man is married and has kids, and everyone knows that he is a ladies man and they let him get away with it (More & Miller, 2014). That is sexual harassment just waiting to happen. The Sergeant is just as liable as the FTO when it comes to sexual harassment. Sexual harassment can be any unwelcome sexual advances, verbal comments, or any sexual nature of any kind (“Sexual Harassment”, n.d.). Just because it was not unwelcome with Officer Roberts does not mean there were not women or men in the past that found his ladies’ man attitude offensive. Sergeant Williams thought that Officer Roberts could hold her own against men like the FTO and put them in their place if need be, so he never thought there would be an issue if he put the two of them together. I think that deep down he thought that Roberts would tell him off and put him in his place, like so many others should have. Like he wants to and does not have the guts to do. Williams should never have let the FTO train anyone with the attitude that he has. Sergeant Williams should have known it would cause problems sooner or…

The applicant requests an upgrade of the characterization for her discharge from under other than honorable conditions to honorable. The applicant seeks relief, contending, in effect, that she was a good Soldier and a lesbian who enlisted in the Army thinking that “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” (DADT) would work. The applicant contends that it does not work because he request to have her long tern girlfriend has a battle buddy was disapproved. The applicant further contends that she threatened with rape and bodily harm almost daily and he informed the drill sergeant and the first sergeant, however, the taunts and threats towards her personal safety continued. The applicant also contends that advances Individual Training found her in the worse shake, she tried talking to her chain of command, the chaplain, and she was told repeatedly to suck it and drive on, do the right thing, and until she hit rock…

The Marine Corps is the only military branch of service to preserve gender-segregated recruit training. It is my sincere belief that this approach to entry-level training eliminates distractions and allows for healthier, genuine and effective mentoring. Segregated training should continue in the United States Marine Corps to focus young women on strong female role models to emulate. Female drill Instructors often prove that female Marines are as strong and proficient as their male counterparts.…

That leads us to wonder what kind of sexism women would face. “Researchers have distinguished between two forms of sexism: hostile and benevolent. Whereas hostile sexism is more obviously negative, benevolent sexism is often disguised as positive, portraying women as needing and deserving greater care and protection” (Trobaugh). Even though benevolent sexism is more positive, it is still bad because it allows for men to look at women as lesser and weaker. The male soldiers are fearful of “lowered physical standards, increased sexual assault and harassment, reduced readiness, and destruction of the masculine culture of brotherhood” (Trobaugh).…

Although female soldiers have recently been allowed to take jobs in previously all-male battalions, over 250,000 combat jobs still remain closed to them. Diversity in the Armed Forces is a complex issue when referring to leadership positions, increase opportunities, and especially in terms of gender equality and gender integration. The increase of diversity in the Army challenge traditional military attitudes, beliefs, norms, policies, and regulations. For some analyst the gender integration in combat fields is a challenge that affects the integrity of the Army. For others, diversity, gender integration, and gender equality are topics of contemporary concern and debate. Diversity influences transformation and change of traditional belief, values, customs, and attitudes. One of the greatest concerns about gender integration is to face issues such as sexual harassment, sex and gender, and…

The DOD will need to revise the Uniform Code of Military Justice and lay out crime and punishments for this class, and clarify what constitutes sexual harassment and discrimination. I’m not sure such undertakings can be considered “simple administrative changes.” Granted, there were similar concerns with the repeal of DADT, but that was a 20 year process. Gates and Herman (2015) estimate that approximately 15,500 TSM serve in the military. The Department of Defense has never queried the force or actually tried to quantify real numbers of possible TSM in the military, so this number is more of a guesstimate at most. There could indeed be 15,500 TSM, or there could be 50. Harrison-Quintana and Herman (2013) estimate that of the purported 15,500 TSM, approximately 90 percent of TSM are male to female (MTF). Therefore, any policy changes will affect female Soldiers significantly and disproportionately more than…

Stereotypes between men and women are really starting to change. Especially with the idea that women can be just as tough as men. Allowing them into combat positions could bring many benefits and more people are starting to see that. Women have come a long way in today’s military culture and allowing women in infantry positions brings us one step closer to gender equality throughout the armed…

McGregor reported mistreatment and crimes for Women in Combat and people are noticing it. For women in combat, there are constantly problems for women to perform on the frontline. “In 1994 the Department of Defense officially banned women from serving in combat, but, on January 24, 2013, Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta removed the military's ban on women serving in combat. Lawsuits and new restrictions began to happen.” (Jurist report by Jerry Votava)…

Having experience being in a committed relationship with a United States Navy sailor for three years, it seemed necessary to address this issue for young women to make an informed decision before getting married to a United States Serviceman. Whether one is in a committed relationship with a Serviceman and planning to get engaged, or newly starting a relationship with someone presently enlisted, knowing what is to come with being a military spouse is something every 18-22 year old girl with a military significant other should know.…

There will be 20 office supervisors in attendance. I am making a request for a trainer to teach the seminar on that date. The trainer should be able to cover the topics of sexual harassment and unlawful discrimination in the workplace. The company will be supplying a podium, instructional video, and reading material. If there is anything else the trainer needs, please let me know. The trainer should focus on the unwanted touching sexual harassment section of the seminar. We are having questions from male and female staff on what is acceptable behavior so this training is going to focus on the most discussed topics.…

    Disabled American Veterans

Though women have volunteered to serve in our Nation’s military since the American Revolutionary War and in each American war thereafter, female Veterans have consistently dealt with the minimization of their service and status when compared to men (Disabled American Veterans [DAV], 2014). Unfortunately, some of those same barriers still exist today, as female Veterans are frequently under-recognized for their roles and participation in combat, even by females themselves. Females serve in the military in the same capacity as men and experience similar, sometimes worse, health conditions as a result of their military and wartime experiences. Female Veterans of each era deserve equal respect and consideration, and should receive the specialized,…

Some of the most notable fraternization policies are implemented in the military; they outline how enlisted men and women are able to fraternize as well as the consequences of going against the policies in place. Generally, the concern is of fraternization between an officer and an enlisted member. According to Assistant Inspector General, SFC Cameron Held, such fraternization may diminish the “leadership climate of the unit and developing disciplined and…
