Having less out set the tamariki up for success because it meant that the room didn’t become as cluttered and messy, therefore they had more room and space to play and learn. It also provided more defined areas for resources to be used in. For example, the Lego was set up on the grey mat and that was the space that it was to be used in. Using the mat provided the children with visual boundary to adhere to.

I have asked them to help me clean up certain areas of play throughout the day and at regular tidy up times just before lunch and afternoon tea. I have also reminded them to be aware of the younger children and keep them safe when using small resources like Lego and marble because we don’t want them to choke. I have given them opportunities to be considerate by reminding them repeatedly that when they come inside that they do not need to wear a Jump Start hat and to replace it back in the hat box so another child can use it when they go outside. I have also used positive forecasting to set tamariki up for success. For example, the other day I said to the group playing at the marble run I have to read a story to James because he is upset. I know that you are all really responsible and that you will remember to come give me your marble when you have finished at the marble run, which they
