If I were part of the selection committee for the River Woods plant manager position and was considering hiring candidates’ bases on personal power, I would consider individuals who demonstrate expertise, attraction, effort, and legitimacy. The above kind of qualities are essential as a source of personal power for the following reasons. First, in considering a candidate with expertise for the new decentralized operations plans, I would look at the candidates’ formal education, self-directed learning, or the on-the-job experience. When candidates spent time attending colleges, graduate school, or certification programs to further develop themselves in the field, this is a plus for business, because it shows that those candidates are passionate about their field and career path. In addition, even without formal education, if candidates spend time and effort in learning what it entails to be excellent in that particular field, then this shows the passion of those candidates. Moreover, experience is very important when it comes to hiring the right candidate. One can attend multiple years of school or teach themselves, however, nothing is yields more reward to businesses than candidates with the hands on experience.
Second, in considering attraction, candidates must come to the table with charisma, agreeable behavior, and physical characteristics. This will make employees feel inspired to work, which will increase productivity. It will also help employees to adjust to the new ways of running the plant and how they follow directions.
