Though the ocean seems like a very quiet place, but if listens carefully, one might just hear the sounds of the fish choir. Most of this undersea music comes from soloist fish, reiterating the same calls again and again. But when the calls of different fish ………………….co existed , coincide ,combine, mingle with this, they form an ensemble. Robert McCauley and his counterparts of Curtin University in Perth, Australia, discovered seven definite fish choruses, occurred mainly at dawn and at dusk ; by recording vocal fish in the coastal waters off Port Headland in Western Australia over a time period of one and a half year. The low “foghorn” call is ........................ pronounce, enunciated, utter , conceal by the Black Jewfish while the “grunting”
call made by a species of Terapontid. The third chorus is a quieter batfish that creates a “ba-ba-ba” call. “I’ve been listening to fish squawks, burble and pops from last 30 years now, and I still get ....................... bewildered, flabbergast, amaze , clear up with their diversity,” says McCauley, who led the research. Sound plays a very crucial role in different fish .................. behaviours , demeanour , action , style like reproduction, feeding and territorial disputes. Nocturnal predacious fish use these calls to stay together while hunting and fish that are active during day time use sound to ........................ shield , secure , safeguard , harm their area. The recordings were recorded with the help of two sea-noise loggers: the first situated near the Port Headland shore while the second was positioned around 22 kilometers away in offshore waters. Listening to choruses for a long period of time enables scientists to examine fish and their ecosystems in better way, especially in a very low visibility waters, like as of Port Headland.
