Roger Williams Impact On Society

Roger Williams helped America start in a good direction with his ideas, beliefs, and use of power. With the work of Roger we would not have many of the laws and bills put into place as we have today. America as we know it could have been altered to a Jesus-loving nation. I don’t know about you but no birth control and significantly less progression as a society doesn’t sound like a good country to live in. Along with this nation we could of been, we would of had many more wars with other major countries. With all this taken into account, Roger Williams and his ideas of religious freedom and tolerance may of just saved America. As a young bambino, he lived in the early 1600’s in London, England. At this time he was forced in the Anglican Church by his mother which he will later leave. Living under King James I’s rule wasn’t the best of times, he had to deal with religious persecution at the time which could of influenced his beliefs of religious (and secular) tolerance. Sir Edward Coke found this very smart young boy and decided that he needed schooling.1
He made many relationships with the natives and started making very well-established trade routes with them in other countries. Since Rodger had a lot of time on his hands he spent a lot of this time arguing against the Quakers and quakerism. one of Roger's last books was an attack on quakerism, even though he could not stand the thought of quakerism he never push them out of his Colony or banish them based off of their religious beliefs alone. Rodger eventually dies here in Providence is in his own town and is very behind his house. he is put in an unmarked grave that is found a few hundred years later. The tremaines we're gathered end taking up to the north burial ground in the Rhode Island Historical Society. after some time they removed his remains again and set them beneath the large statue of him in Prospect
