The roles of women have changed drastically since the pre-Columbian times, where now in Trinidad and Tobago women have made a significant contribution in the country’s development. Pre-Columbian refers to the time periods in the history of the Americas before any European influence. In the past, men were declared the head of the household and possessed all the power. At a point in time, men were known to be the only provider. This meant that he supplied everything a household required such as money for the maintenance of the home, being a good listener for all emotional challenges that his family would go through and for religious stability. The man 's duty was not only to protect his family from physical dangers but also he must safeguard their self-worth and value. Men were seen as leaders which meant that they took control and were in charge of the family 's decisions. This implied that any decision or changes made by the man of the house must have followed through without any objections. For his family and society, men were believed to be a teacher as well. This where the men lay down certain prominent standard such as behavior and ensure that he as well as his family upheld them. The man was known as a good example of what his family should be. Conversely, during recent times, the control and supremacy that men had over their homes has begun to revolutionize. Now women have same roles and hold same jobs as men. Women can no longer be looked at as inferior. Women have indeed made a better stand for themselves in Trinidad and Tobago. They have done this not only for the working force, but to bring forward their principles and values with pride and to be proud of their gender. Women have continue to show the greatness they have to offer and not just to be another man in the workplace and in society, but to bring forward the feminine heart to change the masculine force.
