Introduction
As time goes by, and society expands and continues to grow, the roles of individuals within the society also grows and expands. In particular, over the last few centuries, the roles of women in the world has tremendously grown and changed. Today, in most modern societies, the roles of women are substantially different from what was expected of women a century or two ago. In the past, most societies considered women a lesser gender and treated them with less respect as was accorded men. However, things have changed with the development of the world and today women receive the same amount of respect as men in most cultures across the world. Women today can vote and be voted in elective posts, and have infiltrated most male-dominated fields. There is gender equality today. For perspective, it is important to note that the role of women in today’s society is as a result of great changes and transformations from yester years when women were considered inferior to men. However, today play bigger roles in many different areas of society where they are treated as equals to men and compete with men in almost all positions on offer. Although there are some societies where gender discrimination is still rife and women are subject to vast stereotyping, it if fair to say that in most modern societies, women are continuing to play prominent roles as do men, particularly in the American cultures. This is similar to the role that women have been conferred with within societies in the novel. There is equality between men and women, and although there are some roles that are distinct, no women is considered inferior to men but all genders work hand in hand for the betterment of the communities and the society at
