As I stated before, the Islamic Caliphates’ main religion was Islam, referring to their empire name. Like Christianity from the Byzantine Empire, Islam also took a part of the government in the Islamic Caliphates. Just like the Byzantine Empire, the ruler of the Islamic Caliphate was Muslim, their most practiced religion. His name, as many of you probably know, was Muhammad (c.570-632). He is the person who found the religion and was the leader of all Muslims until his death. After his death, caliphs appeared, who were “successor of the Messenger of God.” Looking back at their name it is believable that they were the ones that ruled the Muslim community and the empire. Since they were the ones that ruled, Islamic Caliphates were mostly governed by the Muslims. The religion didn’t specifically help or effect the government, but actually governed the empire. Abū Bakr was the first caliph who ruled the Islamic Caliphates and as it states on britannica.com, “When the Prophet Muhammad died (June 8, 632 ce), Abū Bakr succeeded to his political and administrative functions as khalīfah rasūl Allāh, “successor of the Messenger of God,” but it was probably under ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb, the second caliph, that the term caliph came into use as a title of the civil and religious head of the Muslim state.” So it makes one understand that Muhammad was in charge of the politics and government while he was alive, and since it says that Abū Bakr succeeded to Muhammad, it means that they did the same as Muhammad, govern the Islamic Caliphates. Umar was the second caliph and he used his knowledge about politics and government that he received from the two rulers before him. This helped the Islamic Caliphates to stay put and hold itself together. This quote from www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org supports the fact that Umar was a great leader, “Umar, however, was one of the great political geniuses of history.” Under him, the empire expanded immensely and he was…

The Muslim World and The Byzantine Empire were two of the most powerful and most-linked-together civilizations during the Middle Ages due mostly to their cultural achievements, religious values, and economic activities. The Byzantine Empire and Muslim World had very similar and different cultural achievements due to their very unique styles but also sharing each other’s ideas as well. The Muslim world’s cultural achievements focused more on the development and interaction of cultures while the Byzantine Empire’s cultural achievements revolved more around the ideology of state building and the arts, but although there are some obvious differences between the two civilizations, their cultural achievements were very similar in many ways. Although the two civilizations practiced religions that shared some similarities, they did have religious oppositions as well and differed in many of their beliefs. Contrary to their very different religious values, they had very similar economic structures by trading on the silk roads and having very strong banking systems. The Muslim World and Byzantine Empire do share some similarities when it comes to economic activities and cultural achievements, they vary and contrast greatly when it comes to each of the civilization’s religious values.…

Although the fall of the Roman Empire and the Abbasids differed greatly they both still declined due to internal and external factors, such as the government and economy failing, foreign invaders, and reasons caused by the people. Even though both empires suffered to causes that were similar, the two inevitably ended differently. The Roman Empires government suffered from political uncertainty and the moving of the capital. The Roman army steadily began to grow weak, while the population declined and the Roman Empire could no longer protect itself from nomadic invaders. On the other hand due to problems with political control and succession the rule and financial system of the Abbasid failed; focusing more on handling the slave revolts and assassination attempts, the military unsuccessfully defended itself from the Mogul invaders that later took over the empires capital Baghdad.…

There were many customs of Rome. Some of them were, slavery, family connections, and recreational fighting. The use of slaves was common in the upper and middle class Roman families. Slaves were used for farming, business and public buildings. Slaves were also uses for slave market. When slaves were first captured, they were brought to auction blocks stripped naked as the buyers examined and placed cards on the slaves that listed all the qualifications of the slave. Other ways in which masters degraded their slaves was by selling them into prostitution, especially, the females. Family connections and blood lines were very important in Roman culture, even taking priority over wealth. An example was Gauls Marius being forced to to marry Julius in spite of wealth, just to move up on the Roman political ladder. Another custom was the gladiator fights at the coliseum. Good gladiator fights…

Roman religion and Christianity both express many similar foundational and structural ideas. Romans and Christians share the same base of strong moral as well as respect for authority. The Roman family’s shrines to the gods although not exactly the same is very similar to Jesus’s followers enamored by his teachings, and in turn was very cult-like. They were passionate about their gods, and needed to express that. Both religions believe in sacrifice. Roman’s would sacrifice themselves, food, and objects in order to please the gods, while Jesus sacrificed himself for humanities sins, others who followed in Jesus’s footsteps were considered Martyrs. Another similarity belongs in the hierarchy and social status, Rome was very structured with the patron-client system, which focused on respect. The hierarchy of Christianity was focused on doctrine and keeping internal strife at bay, as did Rome’s hierarchy.…

The Byzantine Empire was surrounded by enemies and lasted 1000 years. This empire was very strong because it had political, military, and economic strength and its people adapted skillfully to change. The empire started to crumble because the saljuq Turks took over Asia Minor and this area was very vital to the Byzantine Empire’s food supply and also its soldiers. The religion of the Byzantine Empire was Christianity and the leaders were the patriarchs of Rome. A significant religious debate concerned holy pictures called icons of Jesus, Virgin Mary, and the saints. Due to the fact that the Byzantine Empire created their own silk industry they no longer need to depend on china or Persia for their silk. A very interesting place to go in Byzantine Empire would be the Hagia Sophia it is 240 feet wide and 270 feet long in the form of a cross. What I like about the Byzantine Empire is that they believe in god and that for a nation/empire can last 1000 years while you are surrounded by enemies that hate your guts. The best Byzantine Empire leader was Justinian he was the best due to the fact that he knew who to pick to help him lead the empire and they were his wife Theodora and the commander and chief of his army Belisarius. I would say the best time for the Islam Empire would be in the early 600s. The Islam religion includes a Quran (holy book) like most religions do and they believe in one god and no one it equal to that god. They sold there daughters off to be married and they called that a Dower it’s a set price for the man to pay to the daughter as a gesture of love. A nice place to visit in Islam would be the great mosque of Córdoba and it took 200 years to create. Also, a nice place to visit would be the dome of the rock in Jerusalem and the great mosque at Samarra. I like the fact that people are very religious there and that they…

The United States and the Roman Empire share many differences and, even more, similarities. Some are evident while others are hardly noticeable. The Roman Empire faced attacks from the Huns like we face attacks from terrorists. Natural disasters caused many deaths and they still do today. The Romans lack of care and negligence for their well-being cost them in battle. The same will probably happen to us. It may not really seem like it but the United States is following in the footsteps of the Roman Empire. The similarities of the foreign threats, natural and environmental disasters, and laziness may be what will cause the fall of the United States.…

Islam shares more similarities with Christianity than one might think. Both religions believe in only one god with similar traits, the men Moses and Jesus as important figures, and have roots in Judaism. However, Islam also has many differences. The primary figure of Islam is the Prophet Muhammad who received God’s final message through the Archangel Gabriel. Muhammad’s teachings and way of life are included in the Qur’an, which is the Islamic holy book. With the support of his wife and his uncle, Chief Abu Talib, Muhammad avoided persecution from the people of Mecca. After they died, he was forced to leave to the city of Medina due to pressures of polytheistic Meccan merchants that were threatened by his teachings. This move is called the…

The video Islam: Empire of Faith was mainly telling you about the history and ways of life of Muhammad, Suelyman, and Mehmet. Although I didn't particularly enjoy watching an educational movie about religion, it was interesting to learn what had happened in the many years before my generation. I enjoyed seeing the very old but astonishingly well structured buildings made of gold and other unique necessities. I found it very impressive that the buildings were still standing hundreds of years later. I didn't have any problems with the film other than it being rather boring, I personally found somewhat of an interest learning about other religions and their beliefs.…

The three largest Muslim empires that extended from the Mediterranean to the Bay of Bengal include the Ottoman, Mughal, and Safavid empires. Each of these empires is unique in their own right, but commonalities exist among the three. Firstly, these are Muslim empires, ruled by individuals practicing the faith of Islam. Therefore, the restrictions and guidelines within Islam were present in these civilizations. Notably, tolerance for other religions and rules for war etiquette is in Islam and practiced by those leaders. Secondly, the origins of Ottoman, Mughal, and Safavid culture can be traced to Turkic and other nomadic cultures. Thirdly, The Ottoman, Mughal, and Safavid empires are known as the “Gunpowder Empires” due to their effective usage…
