Elizabeth Gilbert, an author once stated "Your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts, and you are the slave to your emotions. Elizabeth Gilbert. This quote speaks a message about life, how a person’s emotions have complete control of your actions and vice versa. Most people continue to wonder why these emotions happen in the first place and how simple emotions may lead to huge decision making. In the tragedy “Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare, it explains the journey of two star-crossed lovers and their difficulties that are created by strong emotions, such as their passion and desperation. Due to this, tremendous emotions such as anger, love, and hopelessness can lead to the ending of violence, peace, and desperation because it causes …show more content…
Another instance of when love leads to open mindedness is when after Romeo and Juliet got married and Tybalt challenges Romeo to a fight, but Romeo has to decline because Tybalt is now his cousin in law. Romeo shows that he is now open minded to not being enemies with Tybalt when he states “Tybalt, the reason that I have to love thee Doth much excuse the appertaining rage To such a greeting. Villain am I none? Therefore, farewell to you. I see thou knowest me not. Romeo in this scene says that he loves Tybalt but can’t know the reason why just yet because Tybalt isn’t open to Romeo marrying Juliet due to the hate he holds towards Montagues, but Romeo became open minded to not hating Tybalt due to his love for Juliet. This is because Tybalt is Juliet's cousin and Romeo loves Juliet so he doesn't want to fight his loved cousin because they are now family and Romeo's open to not being enemies. This shows how love leads to people being open to new ideas and can help create bonds and connections that will make people open minded individuals. In Romeo and Juliet, this statement is proven right. As the characters make decisions based on emotion, many literary elements are intertwined by William Shakespeare. Conflict is not only a literary element but also is a theme that is used throughout the whole playwright. For example, the passion of hate causes the Capulets and Montagues to constantly fight and feud. This External conflict interferes with Romeo and Juliet 's love and causes them not to tell their parents about their marriage. They have to constantly meet in secret and them not being able to see each other causes more major conflicts. For example, they feel so deeply for each other that they feel that they cannot live without the other. These strong emotions lead to many misunderstandings and eventually the death of the two "star crossed lovers". If Romeo and Juliet were thinking within reason, they would have told their parents about their love and possibly may not have committed suicide. The death of Mercutio also causes problems between the characters. When Tybalt kills Mercutio, Romeo feels vengeance and anger towards Tybalt. If Romeo would have been thinking realistically, he would have told Prince Escalus about the killing and Tybalt would have gotten in trouble. Instead, Romeo makes a rash decision and kills Tybalt and later faces the consequence; being banished from Verona.…

During the first Balcony scene Shakespeare introduces the example of love from the first meeting of Romeo & Juliet, example such as “Dear saint”. Romeo says “Juliet is the Sun”, which is describing Juliet as a special part of the universe the centre of everything, for example, without the sun life would not be able to exist also life revolves around the sun and it seems to make Juliet seem brighter and more important. During the beginning of the fight between Tybalt and Romeo, Romeo pleads with Tybalt to not to fight “I do protest I never injured thee, but love thee better than thou canst devise” Only Romeo knows of the love and marriage between himself and Juliet. “Love does not begin and end the way we seem to think it does. Love is a battle, love is a war; love is a growing up.” This quote was made famous by James Baldwin and explains that love can be great, but can end in consequence. This quote can easily get blended in with the famous ‘Romeo and Juliet’ by Williams Shakespeare. Which is about a couple who have to deal with their families hating one another. Even though a lot of romantic things happen, some parts led up to the fate of the couple. There are many examples of this that are evident throughout the play such as Romeo’s impulsiveness, Tybalt’s hot temper, and Friar Lawrence’s spontaneous planning.…

One of the people this doomed love influenced, probably more than anyone else, was Romeo himself. Knowing she was a Capulet and that there love would never work out made him depressed and always crying and whining. Also, he was then more disheartened when he killed Juliet’s cousin that she loved very much. He was so miserable he once tried to kill himself in Friar Lawrence’s cell in front of Nurse, and Friar Lawrence. So, Friar Lawrence said, “Hold thy desperate hand. Art thou a man? Thy form cries out thou art; Thy tears are womanish,” basically telling Romeo he needs to stop what he’s doing and act like a man and stop crying all the time like a woman. Eventually, though, the love of Romeo and Juliet killed Romeo when he was in the Capulet tomb with the “dead” Juliet. She didn’t wake up exactly when planned so he immediately killed himself, thinking he was doing it for her while saying, “Here’s to my love! O true apothecary! Thy drugs are quick. Thus with a kiss I die.”…

Between Romeo and Juliet in the story Romeo & Juliet, Romeo is more compulsive than Juliet. For starters, Romeo falls in love way too easily. He says to his cousin Benvolio, “Out of favor, where I am in love” (1.1.178). This quote illustrates his compulsive feelings of ‘love’ for a girl who has no interest in him whatsoever. Following his rejection of Rosaline, Romeo is extremely quick to act on his emotions. Montague, Romeo’s father, states that Romeo “Shuts up his windows, locks fair daylight out, And makes himself an artificial night” (1.1. 146-7). This passage shows you how quickly he changed after getting rejected once and how it didn’t go unnoticed by the people around him. Finally, Romeo falls in love with eyes and character…

“An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind” (brainyquote). These are some well known words spoken by the great leader Mahatma Gandhi. To begin love vs. hate is frequently used paradoxically, Juliet fell in love with the only son of her family’s great enemy, and many died due to their ruthless hate and disregard for reason or peace. Juliet was, at first, a very obedient child and agreed to marry Paris for her parent’s sake. When she met Romeo, all of this changed. Her love for Romeo is ironic, because out of all possible suitors, he is the only out of bounds. Juliet’s “only love sprung from [her] only hate” (61). Juliet, is torn between love and hate of Romeo in different situations. She is madly in love with him, but he’s a Montague that killed her cousin. Her confusion expresses the complex situation she is in. Erkskine believes that hate cannot coexist with love, and Romeo and Juliet’s death is inevitable, “The feud also, which was to defeat Romeo and Juliet with implacable hate, had been prepared for them before birth. Their destiny was one passion the obstacle to it was another.” Romeo and Juliet couldn’t love until they were parted by death. Every discord between the Montagues and Capulets pulls at the heartstrings of the audience who just wants Romeo and Juliet to be together. The fighting and hate between the two families causes the relationship to be less and less possible. When a Capulet is responsible for the death of a Montague or vice versa, the families hate each other more and more. When Romeo kills Tybalt, Juliet is very torn between…

Every day we go through life struggles that affect our future. Yet, sometimes after dealing with these issues, for so long, they become a part of us. They become so real that we build our lives around these unpredictable events. William Shakespeare uses this theme to describe love in his play Romeo and Juliet. Through these two main characters he shows how love is something we cannot get rid of, instead something you will take to the grave. Just like a disease, the memory and scars will always be there to remind you of your journey.…

Romeo had multiple dreams where destiny spoke to him and foretold him about events in the near future. His dreams are like a medium for fate to speak to him of his tragic death. While Romeo is in Mantua, he awakes from a dream of Juliet and his seemingly pleasurable future with her then joyfully says, “If I may trust the flattering truth of sheep, my dreams presage some joyful news at hand.” (5.1.1-2). The word ‘presage’ immediately hints that this is a dream about his fortune, and is a clear display of Shakespeare using foreshadowing to demonstrate the recurring theme of fate being in control of their lives.…
