As he draws his sword, Romeo angrily fumes, “Alive in triumph, and Mercutio slain? / away to heaven respective lenity / And fire-eyed fury be my conduct now! / Now, Tybalt, take the “villain” back again / That late thou gavest me; for Mercutio’s soul / is but a little way above our heads / staying for thine to keep him company. / Either thou or I, or both, must go with him” (III.i.123-130). The chorus chimes, “The fearful passage of their death-mark’d love / And the continuance of their parents’ rage, / which, but their children’s end, naught could remove” (Prologue.9-11). This proves that violence does not solve problems because the Montagues and Capulets were not brought together by violence. This also proves that violence does not solve problems.
