Romeo running over to see Juliet one last time is fine. It’s his dying wish to be with her one last time. That’s okay and completely understandable. Then there’s the fact that Romeo buys a poison from the apothecary. “A dram of poison, such soon-speeding gear/ As will disperse itself through all the veins/ That the life-weary taker may fall dead,/ And that the trunk may be discharged of breath/ As violently as hasty powder fired/ Doth hurry from the fatal cannon’s womb.”(5.1.62-67) This shows Romeo asking for the poison from the apothecary. It states that he wants a poison that can kill him before he even realizes that he drank it. At this point he starts to head to Juliet’s grave. When he arrives at Juliet’s body, he doesn’t even make sure that she’s dead. He just walks in and kisses her hand (where he should’ve felt a pulse, the potion had almost fully worn off at that point) and kills himself. Moments later Juliet wakes up to see a dead Romeo. This in itself is laughable. She fake killed herself to see Romeo again and now he’s really dead right next to her. Then she proceeds to stab herself in the chest. Which in itself isn’t the best place to stab yourself for an instantaneous death. The side of the head would’ve been better for a quick death. Overall their deaths were just quickly strung together to make the story more sad. The only reason that Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy, is because it focuses on the love between the two. People get attached to the people they read about. Their love could’ve been better with the help of the feud. And, their deaths were silly and uninspired. Love isn’t stupid or a bad thing. On the contrary it’s a great thing. But, just because someone is in love, doesn’t mean that everything has to revolve around
