13 June 2014 Romeo and Juliet Argumentative Essay Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy, but it does not have to be. Even though there are many characters who contributed to the deaths of Romeo and Juliet, readers can see that they are responsible for their own demise. Due to their personality flaws Romeo and Juliet 's deaths were not only their own fault, but destined. Romeo lacks maturity, and because of that immaturity his life is cut short. One example of his juvenile behavior, is his transient love for Rosaline. Friar Lawrence also recognizes this when he says, " Holy Saint Francis! What a change is here!/ Is Rosaline, that thou didst love so dear,/ So soon forsaken? Young men 's love then …show more content…
Another example of his childish behavior is when he is informed of his banishment. Instead of facing the Prince and taking responsibility for killing Tybalt,
Romeo runs to Friar Lawrence to flail on the floor and dissolve in tears . Romeo 's immaturity and sorrow clouds his judgment and in the end, led to his destruction. In both the book and the movie, Juliet shows very immature qualities. There are many scenes in which Juliet does not face her problems. Instead she weeps and sobs, whereas a mature woman would deal with any problems she may have. An example of this is when she is informed Romeo has killed Tybalt and is banished from Verona.
Juliet shows distress in the book when she wails, “ What devil art thou that dost torment me thus?/ This torture should be roared in dismal hell.” (III, ii, 4344) Juliet is clearly miserable and cannot do anything but cry.
