Firstly, Friar Laurence is highly to blame for the death of Romeo and Juliet even if he did try to do everything out of his good will. “Shall Romeo by my letter know our drift, and hither shall he come” (Act 4 Scene 1). After Romeo is banished, Juliet is being pressured to marry Paris and Instead of offering any solution, the nurse praises Paris as an even better match. The nurse was very indecisive and didn’t take the matter seriously. In the beginning of the text, the nurse encouraged the love between Romeo and Juliet but later she changed her mind and was trying to persuade Juliet to marry Paris because she believed he was much better. We can see this in, “Romeo’s a dishclout to him. An eagle, madam, Hath not so green, so quick, so fair an eye as Paris hath. Beshrew my very heart/ I think you are happy in this second match, For it excels your first” (Act 3 Scene 5). The two lovers went so far that they killed themselves. They could have both survived if Romeo hadn’t killed himself. When Romeo was dead, Juliet then killed herself. Committing suicide was both their own actions and choices. As much as the other characters contributed to their death it was their own doings that is to be blamed the most. “Thy drugs are quick. Thus with a kiss I die” (Act 5 Scene 3). It is distinctly shown that Romeo and Juliet are to blame because Romeo did buy the poison and Juliet killed herself with the sword, by their own actions.
