Rosewood Film Analysis
The 1997 movie “Rosewood” is a movie about slavery which we watched in class. The top 5 main characters of the movie is Mann (Ving Rhames), Sylvester Carrier (Don Cheadle), John Wright (Jon Voight), Aunt Sarah (Esther Rolle), and Beulah “Scrappie” Carrier (Elise Neal). The plot of the movie is that Mann who is a veteran who served in World War I looking for land to buy and live when he comes across the small town of Rosewood which is a predominantly black town in Florida. There he meets Aunt Sarah, her son Sylvester and Beulah which he ends up falling in love with. Aunt Sarah working as a housekeeper for the neighboring town Sumter for a couple in which the wife gets beaten up by her husband. Sick and tired of getting beaten by her husband, she runs around the town yelling for help stating she was beaten up by a black man however, she was lying but the townspeople believe her since they were white. The townspeople and even …show more content…
A movie like this should be watched by an audience who want to witness what occur in reality in 1923 instead of reading it from just texbook. However there will always be room for error since not everything is told. This appeals to an audience of any skin color and race since Americans should learn about history through the use of film. To be honest, I did enjoy the movie on how it was brought together by facts from the historic event that occur in 1923 and made it into a film 70 years later. Now there would be a larger audience since the movie was in every state and people of any race could have seen it. People who watched the movie would think of it just being a movie when it was a true story. Due to this movie i would give it 4 stars since there wasn't as much action in it as I’m used to because I enjoy action movies and any movie with better quality. However, I did learn of any event that I never knew happened in American

In my opinion, I though the film was powerful and overwhelming at times. As, the public figures and political activists gave a lot of information. Some actors acted and appeared entirely different in the movie than the book. The directing and special effects were okay in some scenes, but half-baked and lousy in others. Furthermore, the characters are developed far less in the film and many semi-important scenes in the novel are excluded in the film. Do not watch this movie unless you have read the novel (or even if you have read it). If you haven’t read the book and decide to watch the movie instead, you will fail to understand the complicated relationships between each character and between the Socs and Greasers and just think the movie is substandard and all aspects of the movie lacked in action, emotion, or just seemed like they were not well thought out. A 3.5/10 may seem harsh, but I was not pleased. Just go read the book instead. It had the potential to be a great film, but severely missed the…

Set in New York in the 1950’s, Imitation of Life by Douglas Sirk portrays a complex relationship between a Black American mother and her fair skin daughter, Sarah Jane. Appearance is a central theme throughout the story. Sarah Jane can “pass” as white because of her fair skin but despises the fact that her mother is black. Unlike Sarah, her mother Annie accepts her fate and status dated by the society, Sarah Jane challenges the status quo and adventures out to pursue a whole new world for herself. Sarah Jane seizes every opportunity to break away from her beloved mother to live (or perhaps imitate) a life that offers equal opportunities in the society.…

When you think about the movie industry’s peek in the early to mid-1900s you must consider the social and political environment in the United States at that given time and the affect that had on the movie industries success. To start it was a time of high volume immigration and with that we were faced with the challenge to meld cultures and reform social normality’s. In Screening Out the Past, by Lary may he discusses people traveling to America and becoming a part of the working class and in search of the American dream. Next, you have prohibition which highlighted the social tension between progressives and traditionalists and last but certainly not least we were a country amidst the chaos of World War II. So in such times of havoc and turmoil in seems very appropriate to me that people would want to escape their personal concerns by allowing a film to encapsulate them. I believe people…

The movie itself seems nothing like a history lesson, which is important to keep the audience entertained and not being taught, but it sure assembles a motivational movie for all of those who are, of course, in favor of democracy and equality for all men.
