Runout Camp Creative Writing
As we drove into the large metal gates the hazel brown dust exploded and was electric with energy. My stomach began to turn and my knees became very feeble. We got out and in a flash my mind blanked and my Mom uttered, goodbye. I then tried to vocalize a small word to myself “let it begin.” It all started in my second year of Junior high. I was alerted by my mother who had a satisfying grin on her face. I was in disbelief of what she proclaimed both in fear and excitement. She said with anticipation, her eyes glowing with a teaming brown that during my summer I would be attending camp Tekawitha an all catholic camp. As she passed me her phone one thing stuck out like sore thumb. “No electronics allowed.”
It hit me like a baseball bat. The

His smile shined like the sun beaming down upon all of us. He gave me the rundown about this place. When he was talking he was cut off from a voice in the halls that pierced the air like a Fighter Jet. He ordered everyone to step out into the hall for a briefing. And with one solid step the whole cabin stepped into the hall. What began after the was an event so horrible, so indescribable I can't even speak of it. Each counselor began to do a very rapid dance to show of their avid minds. After that appalling dance, they called an robust intro our whole cabin marched out the door to the canteen where we would begin our first heinous meal. As time went on meals concluded and the first day with all of its ups and downs concluded but the night has not began yet. The night was silent the only sound I could here was the creaky and scratching of the iron bunks. As my mind faded I slowly began to falls fast …show more content…
As groups began to hurry outside the thick cooling air was pushed along my face like a icy sheet. Our cabin then proceeded to move towards to the citadel of the region, the local church. Its beauty shrouded the sky in a thick gaze. As groups rushed In like slimy bugs in the rain people sat down and the room was almost silent and then church began. After church concluded we all ran in towards the canteen and filled our stomachs with sweet delectable honey filled breakfast pastries, everyone felt bloated like a swollen tick. The male part of our camp then was assigned to clean the bathrooms while the female majority was ordered to clean the horrific kitchen. Our group made it apparent that the the six of us can clean a bathroom in twenty five seconds. As I look back I think that we were disgusting, but at the time it was an achievement we could all dance to. We then began our long day on a path, a path that reminded us of our

As he sat stiff backed and upright in the hard wooden chair, Jotham looked around anxiously. He could only see three of the walls, and the ceiling, if he craned his neck upwards, but that was enough to make him very uneasy indeed. They were grey and bare - not silver grey, but a horrible murky grey, that made it seem like everything was closing in on him. The room was rectangular; not at all wide; there was perhaps a metre between him and the nearer two walls, but it was extremely lengthy; probably about fifteen metres long.…

The fog was at its worst today. Sometime between the Shock Stop and the showers, I remember fogging up, and fading out. After the fog had cleared, I found myself in the dayroom. I tried to remember whether I was brought to Seclusion or the shaving room. I concluded that I was put into Seclusion, but that I did not have breakfast. As I attempted to recall what happened this morning, I felt a sudden jerk in the gears. Then he came in. He was unlike any of the admissions here. He came in, refusing to shower. He states that he willingly came to the Combine to find new blood for his gambling. His grin, wall to wall, surrounded the Combine, and his laugh was an actual laugh, never before heard on the Inside. Either the Big Nurse, or the Black Boys did anything. The redheaded man wore a devilish grin, a dirty hat, and raggedy old work farm clothes.…

The train ride to the camps was long and quite eventful, it took weeks. The very first day, a young man discovered an unlocked roof hatch. He decided he was going to jump off, an idea most people met with disapproval. For him, it must have been like making an offensive joke amongst a crowd of strangers. He climbed up anyways, and we could see through a crack in the sliding door him jumping off. We heard shots fired, and saw him dive into a creek, holding…

It was five o’clock in the morning, still dark and freezing cold. Silence filled the air, the only sounds made were screeching screams and cries for help. The guards walk past every ten minutes to ensure no inmates have escaped or harmed themselves in any way. After being here at Goulburn Correctional Center for just over fifteen years now, I know every rabbit hole, emergency exit and surveillance areas around this place. The key to survival here is; don’t make friends with anyone, don’t look anyone in the eyes and don’t eat the food unless you have to. My first thought every morning when I wake up is my two beautiful twins, James and Vanessa. The last time I saw them was 2002. Even though they were young when I was convicted, they have grown…

    Asylum Narrative

Entering the asylum was always drudgery, especially at its now increased frequency. Being strikingly dull and depressing, the process was ingrained in my mind. I pulled up into the visitor parking, entered through those stone cold doors, shared pleasantries with the same sallow stone lady at the desk, scanned my card to enter, and there I was, inside the deathly hole the unfortunate call home. Once inside, the corridors become long and thin. An odd odor permeated the whole facility, a scent that even my clothes smelled of now. Moreover, against the gray concrete walls stood the despicable shadows of the inmates, hiding away in their cells.…

My natural high is running. Running is my natural high because I spend most of my free running whether it’s long, short distance or marathons. When running, your body releases a hormone called endorphins. Endorphins interact with the receptors in your brain that reduce your perception of pain. Endorphins make your body undergo a positive disposition, like morphine.…

I could faintly hear laughing and singing coming from the camp fire. The closer I got to the barrier, the more nervous I became. What if they don’t want me back? What if everyone hates me? Now I stood directly in front of the entrance to camp. Just as I was about to walk through I broke down. “I can’t do this! I can’t go back, no one wants me here!” I screamed as I collapsed to the ground with tears streaming down my faces. I couldn’t hold myself together, I have had enough. I curled up into a ball and began to shake. After that everything went kind of fuzzy. I remember a voice calling out my name. Then a pair of muscular arms wrapped around my body and cradled me. I’m pretty sure I was brought back to cabin. After that everything went…

January 31: Some people in town still assert that the camp is a haven of bliss. Well there are eyes and no eyes. I was at the camp today, and just in one little corner this is the sort of thing I found. A girl of 21 lay dying on a stretcher-the father, a big gentle Boer, keeling beside her; while, next tent, his wife was watching a child of six, also dying, and one of about five drooping. Already this couple had lost three children in the hospital, and so would not let…
