(1st slide) What were the Samurai?
(2nd slide) These are my sources.
The excerpt from Yamaga Sokō is a primary source written as an original document in his work ‘Way of the Samurai’. Yamaga Sokō wrote this work in the mid-seventeenth century as a Japanese Philosopher during Medieval Japan times. He was an expert in military techniques and was highly respected.
This source is very reliable as it is from the time and although it is an opinion, it is not biased or unwitting as well as it not cross-referencing other sources. Yamaga was a person from the ronin social class which gave me a good insight on what were the Samurai. This excerpt is useful for the roles of Samurai, power of Samurai, hardships of being a Samurai, families …show more content…
My primary source an excerpt from Yamaga Sokō answers my question as it talks about the role of Samurai during battle as well as during the peaceful era after civil war. It also talks about the power of the Samurai class including the control they had over peasants and others below them in the Feudal System. This source also provided information about the family and relationship problems with the job but also mentioning the true honour and love for the family.
My secondary source, from a website called Skwirk helps answer the question as it provides information about Samurais strong arms and protective armour. It also talks about the code of conduct for a Samurai called bushido and the superior advantages to being a Samurai. Lastly this source helps me answer my question by giving information about Samurais without Lords called Ronins.
(4th slide) My primary source can be used in five other historical investigation areas including The Feudal System, Merchants, Craftspeople, Families in Medieval Japan and The Power of Lords. My secondary source can also be used in five other historical investigation areas which are Japanese clothing, Japanese wealth, Emperors and Shoguns, Civil War and the Power of the Warrior
