Dear Financial Aid Office:
“Invest in a human Soul who known it may be a diamond in the rough” stated by our beloved Founder Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune. My name is (insert name), a (insert classification) majoring in (insert major), the purpose of this letter is for reconsideration of Financial Aid eligibility and to also continue on and becoming an Alumni of this PRESTIGOUS Institution. The actions I displayed this past semester were very careless and it has reflected onto my grades and I take full responsibility for that. During the past semester, I was going through a lot of things that contributed to my grades falling as well as my GPA suffering.
I come from a city that has no happy ending, violence, drugs, and homicides. I see it all when I visit back home, and I’m trying to get away from that type of environment but that’s what I was born into and it has become a part of me but I know all of that can change, I have had some improvement this past semester but it was not enough and I am asking for another chance to prove myself so I may be all that I can be. I want to make a difference for those that I grew up with and let them know they too can make it in life just as I am trying to do for myself and also my daughter. This too is possible if I am afforded the opportunity to become reinstated back in school. I was inspired to work within the field of education by several individuals within my family that have gone on and receive bachelor’s degrees, masters and even doctoral degrees. That has given me the drive to become a teacher; an African-American male teacher who did not have a good up-bringing and who is able to make a difference for those that maybe walking down the same path as I did. Furthermore, I believe I belong here at Bethune-Cookman University because it has been invested within me and I am a diamond
