Sarah often mentions that there are two main reasons one of the reasons why she is greatly involved on campus. One is because she believes that there should be equal representation of different races and ethnicities in the various organizations so that everyone’s voice can be heard. She has also been inducted into the National Political Science Honor society. In 2016, Sarah Ochieng’s contribution for creating a campus culture of diversity and inclusion was recognized by the CDI, as she was awarded the 2016 Diversity and inclusion award. She also won the 2016 Antonio Johnson Award, which is one of the most prestigious awards here at Xavier, for exemplifying excellence in leadership, involvement, service, and a history of significant contributions to the Black Student Association and the Xavier University community. Recently in January 2017 when a couple members of BSA, ASA, NPHC went to the African American Leadership Experience held in Washington, DC, I witnessed as she was given the Dr. Carroll F.S. Hardy Legacy award out of students from approximately fifty different American schools that were present.
