Bullying is huge problem in today’s society. The aggression that adolescents have these days is a huge social problem. Many schools and communities are coming together to establish programs to stop the growing problem. Bullying is defined as a distinct type of proactive aggression characterized by a power imbalance between the perpetrator and victim that typically involves repetition (Olweus, 1999; Solberg & Olweus, 2003). It can also be defined as unwanted, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involve a real or perceived power imbalance. The behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time. Bullying includes actions such as making threats, spreading rumors, attacking someone physically or verbally, and excluding someone from a group on purpose. The topic of bullying in the 1980s wasn’t being speaking upon like it started to be in 2000. The article states that there were only two hundred articles on bullying. Between 2000 and 2007 however, there was over six hundred articles. Bullying may be the most prevalent form of violence in the schools and the form that is likely to affect the greatest number of students. Intervention is most effective when there is an emphasis on the development of skills to replace aggressive behaviors with more appropriate ones or to replace avoidance /withdrawn behaviors with more assertive ones. The use of group social skills training is the intervention of choice." (Batsche, Knoff, 1994; Goldstein, 1988). Stress is the leading cause of bullying. Teens are stressing over family issues, school, and even fitting in and take these problems out on other adolescents by bullying.
