school uniforms
Imagine that you wake up in the morning and you have to go to school. You put on the same clothes that you were wearing yesterday and walk to school. You open the door and you see a million people, all wearing the same exact outfit as you. It feels just like yesterday and the day before that. That is what everyday would be like if our school had uniforms. I know that many kids in public schools are against having uniforms in school. I also agree because I think that uniforms are a commitment, they don’t allow you to express yourself as freely, and they are boring and drab.

Imagine, it’s school picture day and you have the perfect outfit. You know this dress really says who you are as a person. Then, you remember; you have to wear your uniform in the picture. I believe that uniforms are preventing themselves from expressing themselves through style, which is why schools shouldn’t have them. You might have a lot of clothes that say a lot who you are as a person, but if you have to wear a uniform everyday you can’t do that. People can learn a lot about someone by their clothes and you can’t really with uniforms. Also, girls can’t use accessories to make their outfits more interesting. When you have to wear uniforms for school you can’t wear other things that aren’t part of the outfit. I know people like to wear necklaces or earrings, but they won’t be able to do that with the specific dress code. Plus, what if you really don’t like how the uniform looks or feels? You have an opinion of your clothes. Or what if it is made of a material that you are allergic to? If you have any of these problems you can’t fix them, because you have to wear the uniform for the whole year. These are some reasons why uniforms don’t allow you to express yourself. If schools has uniforms, you might walk into the cafeteria in the morning and you can't find you friends? This is one of the many reasons why I think that we shouldn’t have school uniforms. First of all, you wear the same

Throughout the years, there has been much debate with schools across the country on whether or not students should be allowed to wear uniforms. Through past experience with this argument, it’s safe to say that wearing a uniform is not a bad thing at all. Why? For one, uniforms stop other students from being judged on how they look, two, they save families money and students will not pressure their parents into buying clothes some families can’t afford, and lastly uniforms increase safety and security. So I do strongly agree that students should be able to wear uniforms.…

"Just slapping clothes on kids won't improve a school, but uniforms accompanied by other reforms can make a difference. Uniforms send a message and remind students that they are in school. One element of the message is that when you are going to school, that is your place of work. That is the place where you are working at getting smart." ~Joe Palumbo. Uniforms cause children to be more civilized and mature in what they are doing. It could lead the kids to a greater future and teach them to be more proper. It is a great idea for schools to implement a policy on school uniforms because it provides more focus to learning, reduces peer pressure, and increases school pride.…

However, as stated previously, school is a place to learn not, not to show off your clothing line and your personal swagger. Clothes don’t pick who you are, wearing the uniforms will show that they are all equal and that no one is better than the other one. So, I believe that wearing the uniforms will beneficial to the school, students and parents. Society must decide if individual expression through clothing is more important than education performance being improved because of uniforms being implemented into the school system. Parents and students should remember that uniforms may be required during school hours. After school students can express their individuality in a way, they dress outside of the…

Students will be more comfortable with a dress code and still get to express themselves through fashion. In conclusion, school uniforms are not always beneficial. Children should have the right to appropriately dress for school. This right allows them to experiment with their creativity, imagination, and develop their personality. School should support diversity instead of equality by wearing the same outfit, because each and every student is different and unique. Diversity helps individuals to understand one another and helps spark interest. Clothing expresses a person’s rare personality and culture, it should be their right to show their peers their true…

Many educators do not believe in the positive outcomes of uniforms. They believe it is theory that uniforms will improve behavior and social outcomes because “in reality, they don’t”. (KIDS) One of their thought against uniforms is that uniforms teach children that in order to get along everyone must fit to the same standards. Dressing every student the same gives a false idea that everyone is at the same economic level. Instead, students should be able to notice the difference of social classes in their school, and be able to get along with anyone. Another idea is that uniforms interfere with students’ rights for self-expression and limits them to different knowledge. With uniforms, a student is not able to express what their personality and likes. Also, students who choose their own clothing each school day learn to adapt to shifting social standards and learn skills that will serve them well as adults.…

Many students feel that with uniforms they will not be recognized as individuals. Students often feel that their wardrobes define who they are as people. Even though school uniforms do take away a person 's right to show his or her individuality through clothing, the advantages certainly outweigh the disadvantages in this case. Students would probably be more accepting of the idea of school uniforms if a more casual style of uniform were adopted than a formal traditional style (Kelly).…

Everyday, school teachers and administrators try to enforce certain rules and regulations on the student body. As if it isn't hard enough for these teachers to go about their lectures and curriculum, but having to deal with defiant students is another issue. If uniforms were enforced, the stress level of teachers and even students would remain very low. Teachers would not have to worry about students being out of dress code and students would not have to worry about their image giving them more confidence. In 2007 a school district in Napa, California stated that they would soon be implementing school uniforms in the district. For the simple fact of uniforms being easier to keep up with rather than a dress code.…

School uniforms in today’s society “promote school safety and enhance the learning environment, and diminish the clothing completion” As said by Marsha Boutelle. School uniforms unify a school and help the blending of the school cultures, instead of massive polarization among students. Of course student who could not wear uniforms due to religious reasons or other appropriate reasons could sign out doing so along with parent permission. Along with School uniforms we see a boost in academic performance. With the United States dropping behind other developed nation ranking in at number 18 of 24. (Wu, Elaine) this is low for a nation that is spending a lot on education every year. Kids are losing focus on school and are competing for what the newest fashion or gadget rather than focusing on school these days. With the addition of school uniforms in American society kids can focus more on their classes rather than social factors that students focus on when there is no school uniform and the dress code is not strict. With the addition of school uniforms in public schools you can see students bonding together helping students feel like they are accepted and part of a much bigger picture than just them. Also the boost in academics helps out everywhere with helping students get into universities of their choice rather than just a university that excepts them and helps them get scholarships, which a lot have a GPA requirement, that must be met in order to qualify or to continue receiving. This…
