Nutrition and fitness in today’s busy society is tougher now than ever before. Men and women work day and night, so squeezing fitness routine is not always the easiest thing. Not only is fitness tough but trying to eat a proper meal is even tougher when fast food is always around. This paper will show how fitness and nutrition is not easy in a busy forty hour plus work week. And some people can make the changes necessary to avoid healthy issues by making the necessary changes in life.

I know at least thirty minutes every day is a healthy goal of activity. So adding at least one hour a week of an activity is what I need to do. So adding Wii Dance Routine twice a week for one hour will help out and give me an extra amount to achieve the goal and go above and beyond the goal.

Second step is to improve the area of nutrition, I eat the three meals a day and I even snack a bit for the extra energy kick needed for the day. But nutritional habits are a lot like fitness habits, it focuses on eating right and exercising right. Habits are created to improve or even decrease who we are. Families need that cooking time together to eat in a healthier way and create positive habits among the parents and the children. I know my eating habits still to this day are affected by my eating habits as a child. My mother worked day and night and my dad also worked long days and sometime nights. So dinner was not a home cooked meal, sometimes it was McDonald’s or pizza. So now that I work more than the average forty hour work week, I sometimes slip and eat that fast food because it is there and easy. Knowing that I know I need to make the changes to change my bad habits.

Fitting healthy habits into a hectic life is not easy but following a few steps to get more nutrition and fitness in a hectic life is necessary for any person who wants to make their fifth birthday. Here are a few things that can be put into play right now that can make healthy habits an easy part of the day to day routine.     At 6 '0" and approximately 210 lbs with a BMI (body mass index) of 28 I am considered overweight and very close to being obese according to the website weight-loss.emedtv.com. I am positive that my current and very poor fitness and nutritional habits are the main cause of my depleting health status as well as my current overweight status. Asking me to explain my current fitness and nutritional habits is basically superfluous. My current fitness habit includes nothing more than the occasional golf or bowling outing, and it does not happen more than once every 2-3 months. My current nutritional habits are just as bad if not worse. Typically I only eat once or twice a day and normally they are very large portions of generally unhealthy foods. For example this past Thursday I managed to eat two medium pizzas from Pizza Hut in one sitting and on Saturday I ate two foot long sandwiches from Subway within about 40 minutes. My fitness and nutritional habits have been the same for years and I know that they are the reason that I am so close to being considered obese. There are a number of health risks associated with obesity. According to WebMD.com "Obesity is not just a cosmetic problem, it 's a health hazard. Someone who is 40% overweight is twice as likely to die prematurely as is an average-weight person. This is because obesity has been linked to several serious medical conditions". Some of the health risks that are associated with obesity include: Heart disease and stroke, High blood pressure, Diabetes, Cancer, Gallbladder disease and gallstones, Osteoarthritis, and Breathing problems, such as asthma.     Being an insulin dependent diabetic with Celiacs Disease has played the main role in dictating my eating patterns for the last six years. I walk a fine line of balancing blood glucose levels with diet and exercise. Many of the foods I eat are simply because I have to follow a gluten free diet to manage my Celiacs Disease. With all of the emerging publicity of gluten free diets people assume that eating gluten free is a healthy, weight friendly, approach to eating. I find that a naturally occurring gluten free diet lives up to many of those expectations, however when certain foods are replaced with a formulated gluten free version it then becomes a different story. When gluten free adaptations of grains in breads, pastas, cereals, etc. are added into my diet I find myself eating a much higher amount of carbohydrates and calories from starch. Many of the gluten free versions of whole grains are very dense in carbohydrates. The reason behind the heightened calories and carbohydrates is because it usually takes multiple types of gluten free flours mixed together to substitute for one non gluten free all purpose flour. I anticipate my carbohydrate intake will be on the elevated side in the initial three day data, but I am consciously mindful to try to avoid too many gluten free replacements and instead opt for foods that are naturally gluten free. Other influences on my food choices would include my on the go lifestyle and my Diabetes. I have been a type one insulin dependent diabetic for twenty seven years. Over the last three decades the guidelines for a diabetics diet and target blood glucose range have changed drastically. Target blood glucose levels for “good” blood sugar control was 180 when I was first diagnosed. At the age of 12 I remember 150 being the upper limit. Now, at the age of 29, 120 is considered the highest “good” limit. These numbers…

    The first goal that I have set for myself is to completely change my sleeping schedule to where I have a bedtime and am sleeping for eight hours. I’ve noticed that dark circles have appeared below my eyes, which indicates me that my body is not receiving the dose of sleep it needs.
