Scientific Racism
Scientific Racism is the practice of classifying individuals of different phenotypes or genotype into discrete races. In the 1600s scientific racism was common and used until the end of World War I. In the 1600s, there was a terrible pseudoscience which came about. Scientific Racism is a racist, bias, based off of stereotypes and all of it was fake. Scientific Racism was an scientific idea of race superiority and inferiority. It placed races into an hierarchy system, describing each race negatively but the Europeans.
The Native Americans were described as having red skin tone, being stubborn and uncivilized and carriers of diseases. The Asians were depicted as having yellow skin color, being depressed, stiff, greedy and severe/harsh in punishment. The Africans were explained as black in appearance, lazy, dull or sick, having a flat nose, lustful and uncivilized. Eugenics was the idea of racial cleansing and that pure white blood was the superior blood. The idea encouraged men like Hitler to kill anyone who was not pure white and convinced himself that anyone who wasn’t, was the cause of the world’s problems.Scientific racism wasn’t just the theory of superiority and inferiority, it was also the misuse of Africans Americans in science since they were looked at and still are with such lower standards. Europeans lied, tricked, mistreated, killed, and abused African americans through science experiments and studies. For example, the Tuskegee Airman syphilis study, 399 black men were injected with syphilis without their consent. They followed how negro bodies would respond to untreated syphilis from 1932 to 1972.
