Secret Government Spy Association: A Short Story
It was Saturday evening and we were about to start dinner.
My wife, Alice turned to me and said, “Ace hunny we are out of mash potatoes and beans will you go to the store and grab some?”
Since the store was a couple of blocks away I felt like there was no need to get in the car and waste gas, besides it felt kinda good outside.
I started to walk and I made it to the store in about 10 minutes. I bought what I needed, talked to Carl (The store clerk and a buddy of mine) a little bit and headed out to go back home. “Hi, my name is Marcus and I am a part of the Secret Government Spy Association also known as SGSA. I saw your fighting skills and I want you to join us.”
Marcus went into detail about the program, the salary, the benefits, and everything else. It sounds like a way better job than my last one but in my head, I am just thinking about what is going on in my life right now. I have a wife and a child on the way so I had to tell him. “Sorry sir, I am real fond of your offer, but at the moment, I must turn down the job.”
Marcus says, “Well, just think over it and call me back with your final answer, nice meeting you Ace.
I finally made it back home and my wife starts questioning me. “Where were you?” “What took so long?” “You had me so worried!” I started to explain what happened to my wife so she could get off my back. She was so astonished but had trouble understanding. So I said it slower and she was surprised and happy. She then asked why don't you take the job and I explained to her why.
She said, “I understand you, but this will be best for the family, I want you to call Marcus back and tell him you want the job.”
