In summary, in response to the question; “How successful are the defences in your chosen area?” I feel that the defences in Walton-on-the-Naze are successful to a certain extent due to the following reasons. Firstly, some resources showed that the defences were socially sustainable while other resources highlighted the fact that they were economically sustainable even if they weren’t aesthetically pleasing. This was also the case for defences that were more environmentally sustainable. The different types of defences all had a varying amount of these 3 categories, some being more successful in one area than another. For example, sea walls are more economically sustainable because, even though they are the most expensive defence, they have the longest lifespan due to the durable material they are constricted from (concrete). However, because of this construction and installation technique, it wouldn’t be environmentally or socially sustainable as it would cause a lot of noise and might deter wildlife from the area temporarily. The defence with the highest level of social sustainability is beach replenishment because it doesn’t visually change the area too much and would help attract tourists to the area. It would also cause limited disturbance to the residents which gives it the social aspect. On the other hand, it isn’t economically sustainable because it wouldn’t be cost effective to replenish the whole coast of Walton as certain areas are more prone to erosion, meaning the…

In the 1980’s Nordstrom’s experienced a boom. This was due to many factors but one of the most prevalent was their amazing use of customer support. Over almost anyone else Nordstrom’s prides itself on having some of, if not the best, customer support. This is helped by them recruiting managers from the ranks of salespeople thereby encouraging their employees to work harder while maintaining high moral.…
Charlie’s approach to quality and service will affect his company’s performance in an excellent way. He is the first to arrive at his office. His head is full of ideas, and his heart is full of confidence. He clearly knows his colleagues’ strengths and what’s expected of them for their jobs. He could build on his strengths by traveling with each of the sales reps and coaching them. Inez, the owner of the company, offers him the first sales manager of the company, since he is far and away the best sales rep on the team. He also has extensive knowledge of the company’s product mix.…
Noland Fenwick is trying to recruit firefighters to fill the overload of work that needs to be done at the fire station. The most important step in accomplishing this is he needs to inform, persuade, and remind potential or current firemen about the job. Fenwick should first begin with the current volunteers at Whistler Department. He should inform the crew of the current issue; needing more volunteers or new recruits to cover the workload. Perhaps, just by informing the crew some firemen may have free time available to donate. This would eliminate the pressing need for recruitments. However, it does not solve this issue completely. The firemen will also need to be informed on the recruitment process and be told how they can help. Next, Fenwick…

The philosophy of the founders is taught at orientation; “If you tell someone exactly what to do, you’re getting half an employee. The first lesson that me and my group members learned was that communication is key in a business. If there is no communication, then there are more chances of failing. Communication improves the unity, customer and employee relationships, it also enhances innovation, lastly there are more ideas that get spread around. A company that works to develop strong communication with each other is a united company. By simply keeping in touch on a regular basis, everyone remains united and working together. Each team member shares the same goals in this case, and everyone knows what their co-workers have on their plate. No business would succeed without customers, and every company exists to serve them. Communicating with customers is important as communication that is within the workplace. This is easier today than it’s ever been because there are a wide variety of ways to keep in touch with your customer base. No friendship is ever formed without communication. The more a company’s employees communicate with each other, the closer they will become naturally over time which will increase the number of ideas that are created which then will increase sales and profit. A business can become more innovative overnight just by working together by communicating and that is good news for your revenue and bad news for your competition.…

Motivation can be defined as anything that provides direction, intensity, and persistence to behavior. Performance consists of those behaviors directed towards the accomplishment of team or organizational goals, or the products or services resulting from these behaviors. Performance is different than effectiveness, which concerns judgments about the adequacy of these behaviors, products, or services. Job satisfaction can be defined as the degree to which a person likes to do a certain job or work activity. Motivation, performance, effectiveness, and satisfaction are highly interrelated concepts, and research has shown that leaders using proper motivating techniques have more satisfied followers who also perform at a high level. This in turn helps to reduce follower turnover and increase customer satisfaction and loyalty. These effects on customers often result in increased unit or team performance, such as store revenues and profitability. Therefore a leader’s behavior is related to unit or team performance, but the relationship is mediated by follower performance and satisfaction.…
My ‘career’ has always been surrounding the segment of ‘sales’ – and in my 12 years of practice, the last 10 years has been in the market segment of residential real estate. Throughout the last 10 years I’ve hit all four stages of my career, and ground this observation in the fact that I now run my own business as a consultant in the business. My leadership is located in my ability to provoke new thought in subordinates, hiring and organizational design (Ivancevich, 2010).…

Time Warner Cable Business Class has developed our account managers to take on a consultative approach when selling their business product. Prior to working at (TWCBC), I had very little sales knowledge. My background was customer service. We were trained to be effective sales individuals. What TWBC did was bring in a large group of trainees. They used an extensive sales training curriculum, to build our skills. Once we were able to…
