Walton-On-Naze Case Study
In summary, in response to the question; “How successful are the defences in your chosen area?” I feel that the defences in Walton-on-the-Naze are successful to a certain extent due to the following reasons. Firstly, some resources showed that the defences were socially sustainable while other resources highlighted the fact that they were economically sustainable even if they weren’t aesthetically pleasing. This was also the case for defences that were more environmentally sustainable. The different types of defences all had a varying amount of these 3 categories, some being more successful in one area than another. For example, sea walls are more economically sustainable because, even though they are the most expensive defence, they have the longest lifespan due to the durable material they are constricted from (concrete). However, because of this construction and installation technique, it wouldn’t be environmentally or socially sustainable as it would cause a lot of noise and might deter wildlife from the area temporarily. The defence with the highest level of social sustainability is beach replenishment because it doesn’t visually change the area too much and would help attract tourists to the area. It would also cause limited disturbance to the residents which gives it the social aspect. On the other hand, it isn’t economically sustainable because it wouldn’t be cost effective to replenish the whole coast of Walton as certain areas are more prone to erosion, meaning the …show more content…
There is varying success in the town and the Naze due to the different defences. The Crag walkway, the rip rap defence which is made out of imported gneiss rock, protects the tower and its success can be seen from the managed retreat taking place further up the coast (land dipping in where erosion is taking place). It is successful as it is protecting the area it is meant

Edward Alexander a Harvard graduate is looking to invest in a small income producing apartment building in the Back Bay-Beacon Hill area of Boston, Mass. He currently has $80,000 dollars saved up to purchase this property. He began his search for the perfect property checking current listings and prices using, www.bankrate.com and www.realestate.boston.com. Due to many of his friends living in the area he gained access to eNeighborhoods a program that allowed him to enter addresses and it would show the previous 25 properties sold. Most properties observed sold for $700,000 and higher and required an initial equity investment of $150,000. Since he only has $80,000 in equity he plans to take out a mortgage to cover this cost. He found that the listings he came across were rundown and in bad condition. Such as one property on Myrtle St. This property showed a 20% return on cash investment, but did not account for repairs, vacancies, or management expenses. With these included the cash return would be only 3%. The values of many buildings on Beacon Hill had doubled or tripled in the past ten years due to a large amount of wealthy professionals anxious to own real estate. Alexander therefore believed that an apartment building in the Beacon Hill area would be a safe investment due to little chance of depreciation for functional or economic causes.…

First off let me say that Sinclair Marina has been a customer of your services for many years. That being said for the amount of money being paid for said services I am extremely disappointed at not only the extremely poor quality of the testing window but also the continued freezing of the test where the student has to retake it multiple times in order to pass. This is a multiple hour course made only more difficult by the problems faced. In addition there is poor communication from you and any other employees that are contacted during this testing. Are no efforts being made to update your software or website on a regular basis? These are the same problems I faced a year ago while taking the same test. These are paid man hours we will not…

Upon approach, the fort looks simplistic as it overlooks the sea. A square building that could be anything from a fort, to an armory, to a storage center. The closer and closer you get, the more you realize its great size, and the intimidation factor sets in. Upon entrance, all the hidden secrets and true power of the fort is revealed. The square courtyard is surrounded by solid, windowless, concrete walls that tower 20 feet over you. Cannons line every side up top, ready to be wheeled into action against attacking forces. A small dome shaped tube is placed in a corner for a watchman to look out over the ocean, ready to spot anyone looking to intrude.…

These homes should be built on pilings that are anchored deep into the ground with a minimum height requirement of 6 feet above ground level. The sand dunes should be rebuilt on a minimum height scale. This would mean less displacement of sand throughout the…

    Essay On Berlin Wall

Everywhere around the world, barriers located on each and every continent. From the common American's back yard to the Great Wall of China, we use them for privacy and security, but not all uses of walls have good intentions behind them. An example such as the Berlin Wall, created in 1961, divided East and Western Germany until it's fall in 1992. The North-South Korean border (also known as the Korean DMZ) was created to diffuse tension between the two sister countries, and although it was created with peaceful intentions in mind, the border has suffered thousands of casualties since it's creation in 1953. A more recent boundary is the Israeli-Palestinian wall, which is seen as highly controversial in the middle east ( some Arabs even call it the wall of apartheid), yet the Israeli government insist that it protects the people. Though all of these walls were built for different purposes, they all achieved one goal, and \that is the separation of the people. Since the Berlin wall is the most infamous wall in recent time, I will be focusing on the economical, social, and environmental consequences of its construction.…
