If Nnaemeka wouldn’t have made the decision he did the book wouldn’t have turned out the way it did. His life wouldn’t have turned out that way. If he would have married Ugoye Nweke he wouldn’t be with Nene. So much would not have happened if he just chose to follow Ibo tradition instead of making his own path, some would have been for the better, but some for the worse. His father wouldn’t have shunned him. He wouldn’t have had his kids and the towns wouldn’t have taken a while to accept the marriage. To start the entire mood of the story was sad. Sad that Okeke didn’t support the marriage, then he shunned Nnaemeka, and years later he didn’t know he had 2 grandchildren. Literary devices were used all throughout this story. Some of them were Foreshadowing, Theme, Point Of View, Characterization and Imagery. Foreshadowing was used at the very beginning of the story when Nnaemeka told Nene that he knew his father wouldn’t support the marriage, and he turned out doing just that. The themes are now obvious on what they were. Point of view was through the eyes of the narrator, not any of the characters. Characterization is teaching more about each of the characters. Like when they said Nene was a teacher. It wasn’t needed information but it added more of an insight on who Nene is. Finally, Imagery was used when it was saying it was raining, how they described the rain hitting the roof of the house while Okeke read the letter from
